Cupcake wedding cake

I'm thinking about having a cupcake wedding cake.

^something like this!

What are everyone's thoughts on something like this? I'm a baker myself (part time from home) so I thought it would be something cute and personal. But I feel like some of the older guests, grandparents and such, might raise their eyebrows at sommething different. I know it's my wedding so really only my opinion matters, but I'm just curious to see what everyone else thinks.

I'm also not sure what local bakeries would do something like this. I haven't looked into it that much yet. I'm sure plenty of them do, but maybe I would have to provide the cupcake stand? I really have no idea.

I'm a traditional cake person, although that picture looks really cool!  It would be easier to serve your guests.  Maybe you could get more flavor options with cupcakes too.  I think you should do whatever you want, sorry I'm not much help lol.

Thats what we did! We had a mix of regular sized and mini sized and 3 different flavors. Each flavor was decorated slightly different with a little list of what was what. This was people could have a whole piece or taste a few diff flavors with the mini sizes. We also had a top piece for us to cut into. One of Joshs aunts (and big part of our life) has celiacs disease (gotta be gluten free) so thts what the top piece was. And it was amazing! It was a huge hit and so much easier for people to take home.

Im not sure where youre located, but I went with SweetEndings Bakeshop in Jamesville (5 min from Syr Univ). Mary is amazing and willing to travel for a small fee. She sets up with her own stand (the round one that you see) she just requires that you return it within a few days. If you want other tins or shelves she'll use them as long as you purchase it and drop it off at her shop.

Her food, cake and otherwise, is AMAZING (I grew up with her son and on multiple occations she would invite his friends over for a party simply b/c she loves to cook and shes amazing) Any bias aside (I didnt take any price cut deal from her) I highly highly recommed her.

As far as the older generations go. I wouldnt worry about it. You still get a cake to cut into if you have the top piece and they can choose any flavor! Times are changing, they'll understand :)

We are leaning towards a cupcake wedding cake also, for the variety of flavors we can have, plus the ease of serving (outdoor wedding).....still want it to be beautiful though!

I say "go for it"... if it's something you want.  I would not be mad at any kind of cake... cup cake, cheese cake, cookie cake, any cake... as long as you give me something sweet, I'm a happy girl.  I can't imagine someone getting grumpy over cake... pfff... it if hurts their feelings, they don't have ot eat it.

I think the only thing that guests would miss (if you skip it and do ALLLLll cupcakes) would be the traditional cake cutting... but... most bakeries will also make a small cake, like Bridgett did, for you to cut or save if you want... so you can have the best of both worlds!

Speaking of cupcakes.... I'm pretty hungry now.

We are doing cupcakes though not setting it up in the traditional tiered cake look as we are having a small and simple backyard wedding.  We decided to go with cupcakes because FI and I absolutely love the cupcakes from Sugar Mountain Bakery (link) in Rochester and since we are planning this wedding from Nebraska, it was just easier to go with something we knew rather than have to just wing it with a random bakery.  We love all the flavor options and are actually get 6 different flavors.  They do these cupcake wedding cakes all the time and will set-up, rent the hardware (tiers and the such), and make a small topper cake to cut.  We aren't having them do all that since we are gong more casual.  But I say if that's what you like, go for it!  You don't have to worry about someone having to cut it and it's a lot easier to send home with your guests.

I absolutely love cupcakes for weddings.  You can be so creative with the process, and indulge in flavors you would be limited with a cake.

They can be relatively traditional, e.g. tiered with a larger cupcake or small cake on top for the bride and groom to cut into. Or you can take it any direction you choose.
I'm making 300 cupcakes for a friends wedding, and she wanted a giant cupcake for the top tier for her and her future hubby to cut into.  But left the other 300 in my hands, so I can do what I like....within reason of course.

You're right, it's YOUR wedding! But I've only seen people receive cupcakes with positive comments.  I hope you have the same experience!

We're doing cupcakes too!  I don't think ours our going to be on a stand like that though.  I think they (Sugar Babes) have pedastals of different heights that they will be put on.  Cupcakes rock though!  We're having like 5 different flavors (that's the best part of having cupcakes)!
