cupcakes or cake?

I'm curious to see what you ladies think. My aunt and mother who are making the cake wanted to do cupcakes instead. My Aunt is Martha Stewarts lost twin she's always been and is coming up with so many amazing idea's.

So which would you want cupcakes or cake?

Right now FI is a no on the cupcakes so I'm back and fourth on and wanted to see if other ladies were doing cupcakes or if you went to a wedding and had cupcakes would you think it's tacky or like it?

I think a few girls on here are doing cupcakes.  I'm personally doing a cake, but I don't think cupcakes are tacky at all, I just love cake haha.  It's your preference, either way is perfectly fine (and yummy).

I think cupcakes are nice because then people can just take them when they want, they are all the same size (relatively,) no extra plates/silverware, etc. BUT, I prefer the look of tiered/stacked wedding cakes. It depends on what you are going for- looks or convenience. Also some cupcake towers do look nice too, just not my personal taste

Well, I did cupcakes (as did/are a couple girls here) so Im gunna have to go ahead and say no to the tackiness. It saves you on a cake cutting cost and we were able to have mulitple flavors and sizes. They were a huge hit.

I like the idea too!  You get to chose which flavor you like and like someone else said...no plates and you can bring them home with you!  Cake was another decision FI got to chose so we are doing cakes as centerpeices...otherwise I would love cupcakes!

I don't think cupcakes are tacky, in fact I think they're lovely.  However, I've baked and decorated both cakes and cupcakes for weddings. If your family thinks cupcakes are going to be easier, they're not. So much more simple, but so much more time consuming! It could have been that I had to bake 300 cupcakes with hot pink and electric purple frosting this weekend....I don't know.  But for their sake, I would say bake a cake.  Although it might be a lot easier with more than one person!

I'm personally a fan of... welll.... any form of desert.  I would be perfectly happy with cake or cupcake as long as you feed me.

I don't think cupcakes are tacky at all. In fact, I've seen some cupcake displays that are even prettier (to me) than standard wedding cakes. It's all about the execution and, of course, the taste!

    Why not do both?

Make a small cake for you and FI to cut at the reception for photo-ops, and that can be cut for those people who MUST have cake.  Then make a whole bunch of cupcakes for everyone else!  The small cake could even be a topper for a cupcake tower.

I'm doing something similar - Small decorated cake for FI and I to cut for photos, and a big cookie/ petit four display for everyone else to snack on.

oh perfect do both! so we both win!

That's what I thought that cupcakes OMG! so much work! but my mother said no my aunt would rather do cupcakes because she said it's easier. Hey she knows best then I guess. I think all my aunts are helping her but she;s one to go off have a perfect idea and just so it. So whatever floats their boat and makes them happy. I'll suggest that when they call tonight. Their all getting together to talk it all over.
