Writing your own vows?

Anyone doing it??

I would really love to, but I'm not really sure if our church will allow us (Catholic ceremony, ya know... rules rules and more rules)....

I know we definitely have to use the standard, but maybe our priest will let us add a little bit of our own just before the "I do's"

Here's what I've got so far... but I think I want to clean it up a bit.... Kevin, I love you. I love you, not only for who you are, but for who I am when I am with you. I love you, not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. You are my best friend. Today you become my husband. I promise to respect your individuality and to encourage and inspire you. I promise to laugh with you and to share with you the joys of life, because with you they will be so much sweeter. I promise to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle and to help you face life’s challenges, because through them we’ll emerge stronger. I promise to love you when life seems easy and when it seems difficult; when our love is simple, and when it is an effort. I promise to work with you to make our dreams become reality. I promise to keep myself open to you, to let you in to my innermost fears and feelings, secrets and dreams. I promise to grow along with you, to be willing to face change as we both change, keeping our relationship alive and exciting. And finally, I promise to cherish you and love you, with all that I am and all that I have to give, all the days of my life.

I haven't started writing mine at all, but I have more than a year... but we already planned on writing them. We're even going to work with the officiant to make sure he says things we like.    (We're not having a religious ceremony, so we kind of get to do whatever we want... or at least that's how I'm hoping it works... haha)

I'm pretty sure I'm "writing" my entire ceremony (or borrowing parts from the traditional Catholic ceremony).  A friend of ours is going to be temporarily ordained and marry us.

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!  I borrowed a line or two from several different ones I've seen or heard before (wish I knew the names so I could credit them.... sorry if you're out there)then added some stuff of my own.

 We're doing the traditional ones as when I asked FI about it, he said, "The traditional ones have worked for many years and they pretty much cover everything.  What more do you need?"  This is also the guy who nixed a poem I was interested in having as a reading because it was "too lovey-dovey."  Ha!

Thats it SO FAR?! Holy crap. Thats longer than my 10 pg paper! Haha.

Kidding aside, I love it.

But were going traditional. My pastor asked if we wanted to write our own and we both laughed. Josh has an issue with writing about love and Im doing enough with this wedding and school already. I dont need more "essays" to write.

Love you josh! But I wont be telling you that in my own words!
