Upset by a vendor...

So I had schedule a cake tasting with Cakes By Kathy for Sunday, I had emailed her on Monday to confirm and did not hear back from her until late last night, when she tells me she had me down for last Sunday and she would be out of town this weekend and could not do my tasting, here is part of the email she sent me back after I told her I did not want to reschedule and I would find someone else... -------We all make mistakes, and I truly appologize. On the other hand cake tastings are not something that I have to do, and I do it as an extra courtesy, that I dont charge for to ensure that every bride and groom has a chance to sample some of their options and discuss their ideas for their cake.-------I would not recommend her simply because she does not do a very good job of keeping track of her appts and would hate to have her miss my wedding day.

We got a similar email response from a printer when we let them know that we had decided to go with a different printer due to cost. Shame these guys get so defensive! If you need recs on other places to taste (that WILL remember your appt) let us know :)

What she wrote wasn't tactful because it was defensive instead of sincere.  When you apologize, you cannot be defensive, or it isn't an apology. The good news is, your wedding is not too soon, although it will be here sooner than you know it!  With a year left to plan, you can schedule her later or go with another baker without feeling stuck with her!HTH!

Luckily I have a tasting with Flying Buttercream on Thursday and I am really looking forward to it and they are cheaper than that lady!

Wow, I can't believe a vendor would email that.  No, I guess she doesn't have to do a tasting but I seeing as though every other cake vendor in the area does, she probably wouldn't get very good business.I had a lighting company email me saying that they were the best in the area and they were giving me an amazing price for what I got and nobody else in the area could do the same thing they could after I told them I was booking with another company.  Well, my venue recommended both of these lighting vendors, the propsals for the 2 companies included the exact same things and the vendor I decided to go with was about $700 cheaper. It suprises me how rude vendors can be if you book with someone else.  Just because I didn't book with a certain vendor doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend them, but after rude emails like that I certainly wouldn't recommend them AND I would tell people to stay away from them.

Sorry they were rude to you Brandy!  DEF wouldn't recommend them strictly based on that reply.

While I don't condone what was said, you do have to note that vendors are NOT required to offer tastings before, especially free of charge. After talking with several catering vendors, I was told that it's a fairly recent trend to do tastings beforehand. That being said, it's nice to have this option so we can shop vendors and get a real feel for everything.

I think the point is, this vendor DOES offer tastings and clearly made a mistake in dates and the poster did not deserve a defensive email.

I understand that they do not have to offer a tasting, but I was only looking at bakers who did offer the tasting option. I am just upset at her snarky attitude.

Did you all read that I did not condone what they said? Please don't attack me because I was bringing something to light. THAT'S snarky.

Awe, no one's attacking you frenchie. Seriously, I was jsut trying to show the posters original point which I thought had been missed. I see what you're trying to say too, just didn't think it applied to OP. Sorry for the snarkiness you read...not my intention :)
