I'm getting married in May in Rochester and we have an officiant; a minister from the Unitarian Universalist church on Winton Rd. She's great and we're totally excited. The only glitch for us is that, out of principle, she and many other UU ministers will not sign marriage licenses until allll people can marry in new york state (until gay marriage is legal). We respect and support this but we would still like to make our marriage legal. I've looked into options and learned that you can get a JP to sit-in on the ceremony, witness it and then sign the marriage license without having him/her actually perform the ceremony.
Does anyone have experience with this? and/or can you recommend a Justice of the Peace in the rochester area?
Our other options are to go to city hall a few days before the ceremony or get married at our home UU church in DC, where gay marriage is legal. But, right now I'm looking for tips on a JP in Rochester.
