Engagement Photo ideas

Hi-I'm going to have our engagement pictures done in September. I'm pretty sure we will have them done downtown by the Outer Harbor. Does anyone have an album of their engagement pictures I can look at to get ideas? Even if you didn't have them done at the Outer Harbor. I'm just looking for different poses and ideas.

We just had ours done a few weeks ago so I don't have an album to show you. Who is your photog? Check their website for engagement session albums. If they don't have them available, browse other photog's sites for location and "posing" ideas. My photographers post every session: http://www.ayresphoto.com/category/engagements/
Looking through these really helped me plan outfits and locations.

Obviously your photog knows what he or she is doing so just follow their instructions. They will sit you in the grass and make it look good!

Your photographer should really take control.  Mine just told us where to sit, put our hands, feet, etc, and whether or not to smile.  It seemed really strange in the moment but turned out beautiful.  You shouldn't have to worry about poses.  As for outfits, I would just recommend one casual, one a little dressier.  Since you are at the Outer Harbor you could do something summery, maybe a bit "nautical" haha, and then do a dress of some sort.  Nothing too fancy though...engagement pics are meant to be a bit casual.  My photog recommended capris/jeans and a tee and then a summer dress (we did ours in June). Just have fun with it!

Email your photog, they should be able to help you with all of your questions, as well as show you sample work from the Outer Harbor.

@peaches105... we're using Ayres too! how did it go!?

^This.  Exactly.  Your photog will run the show.  If you have a few ideas or specific shots you want, let them know ahead of time... otherwise just let them do their thing.  They will give you all sorts of instructions to pose, smile, kiss... etc.  Ours even told us to throw snowballs at each other (December shoot)... I was like "umm... ok?".... but they came out awesome!!!

If you are worried about dress/style, email or call ahead and ask for pointers.  They will generally know what type of outfits and colors work best with their style of photography.  Ex. Mine told us to wear neutral/muted colors and bring bright accessories.

As long as you have a good photographer who knows what they are doing, all you have to do is show up and look fabulous!

Here are a few pics from my e-shoot.

@Stephy our shoot went great! [PS how often do you stalk their blogs?! I'm OBSESSED!] I wanted to go all around downtown Buffalo but we didn't have much time since we had to meet on a weeknight after work. We did Delaware Park, Historical Society, HSBC Arena, and Canal Side. We each brought 2 dressy yet casual outfits. I could tell they used lots of color films. Jen is always focused on finding the best shot while Ben is more social.

Where/when are you planning your E-Shoot? Leave all the posing up to them, and be fearless. Wherever you go people will be looking at you, so just ignore them and focus on the camera. When we did our shoot at Canal Side they had already set up the stage for the following night's Thursday in the Square concert, and I am really kicking myself for not having the guts to hop up on stage an have them shoot us up there. Everyone was nervous we'd get in trouble, but I should have done it anyway :)

@Peaches that's great t o hear! I literally check out their website EVERY DAY, so I'll keep my eyes pealed for your post! I can't wait to see them! Their work is so amazing!

I think we're going to plan our epics for the end of September. Right now we're thinking about doing shots at Akron Falls Park (near our hometown), at our high school (where we met), and stopping at some local business with really cool architecture or decorations.

So did Jenn pretty much tell you what to do, how to pose, etc? I know we're in good hands- I just have no idea what to expect! How long did the entire shoot last for you guys? When I asked her a couple questions, she was really limitless- they really take their time with each of their clients! I'm so excited :)

@Stephy fall is going to be so beautiful and I get the feeling it's their favorite time of year to do e-shoots. I would have loved to get ours done in the fall but I want the pics for our save the date, which I want to get out sooner. She said our blog won't go up for months because they are so swamped, but I'm waiting very impatiently for our preview! Sounds like we are thinking alike; we went to HSBC because FI and I had our first date there, and I wasn't sure what they were going to do with us there but she had us do some really cool action shots which I'm excited to see.

I think ours went from 6-830ish. It was just starting to get dark and I wanted to go longer, but we have a new puppy and FI wanted to get home to him. Jen said they would go all night if we were up for it. At some points they will talk to each other about things you can't understand (unless you're a pro photog yourself), but I could tell they were already seeing to the next step like how they would doctor up a certain picture if we did this or that. At first we had a little nervous energy so we were a little goofy, but she was so patient (and took pictures of us thumb wrestling!). And FI was wayyyy more into it than I thought he would be which was a plus. I thought I was going to have to convince him to at least pretend to be enthusiastic, but I think he enjoyed it more than me!

Another tip...when they have you kiss, don't smoosh your faces! Seems silly but it's one of the best tips because a smooshed face is not cute.  You should barely touch lips...much more attractive.  Just a random thought! haha.
