XP - Mini-Honeymoon ideas?

FI and I were initially not able to go on a honeymoon, recently our situation has changed and I would like to plan something small locally.

Does anyone have some ideas for a relatively cheap (read $1,000 and under) get away? Maybe for a week or long weekend? Neither of us has a passport so the Canadian side of the falls is out. And lets be honest the American side isn't all that great.

Thanks ladies.

What about a Bed & Breakfast somewhere in the Finger Lakes?  Or head down to PA to go to the Poconos, that's where my parents had their honeymoon years ago :)

Bed and Breakfast is a good idea.  It depends on you and your FI's interests.  Saratoga Springs is a beautiful area; nice small town feel with little shops and the casino isn't too far away.

My FI and I had a long weekend vacation to Corning, NY. We did a weekend pass to the Corning Museum of Glass ( it includes tour of the museum and exhibits and shows. You can also make appointments to make glass!- Super fun. Just google Corning Museum of Glass to check it out). The town was great too. Excellent food and little shops to browse. We stayed at the Raddison which was pretty central to everything. We went in March last year and we got a great deal on the hotel, buy two nights get one free plus a free bottle of local wine. With food, admission to the museum and stuff and the hotel, we spent like $400 total. We were pretty cheap  too.

You can find deals on the internet so just take some time to look around and see what fits you and your FI tastes.

There are lots of options locally!  Ellicottville, Finger Lakes or Seneca Lake wine country, 1000 Islands, etc.  Check out vrbo.com.  It's a vacation rental by owner site and you can choose anywhere in the world!  A whole lot cheaper than a hotel or B&B.  We're renting a mansion in Florida for the 1st part of our honeymoon and it's saving us a ton!

MOH's sister works at the Sherwood Inn in Skaneatles, and it's really nice. The sister's wedding reception was there too. Skaneatles is a really pretty town, right on the lake, worth checking out!

Its just knowing where to cut on expenses. We had one expensive dinner at a bistro in town, but it was worth every penny! Other than that, we got local pizza one night, ate lunch at the museum the days we were there and went to Friendly's and Bob Evans the other.  We bought some beverages to keep in our hotel instead of using Room Service or vending machines. And if you aren't the type of person who has to be constantly doing something, just stay in the hotel and enjoy each other's company! We stayed in one night and watched the Sabres game!

Niagara on the Lake is where we are headed! I've heard nothing but great things. Romantic and historical. We are staying at the Wine and Country Bed and Breakfast for 2 nights, the room we have was the most expensive (private balcony), and will run us about 400. Good luck to you!
