Target = frustrations!

My wonderful fiance and I registered at Target on Saturday evening.  We were so excited to have one registry done and out of the way.  (We're planning on registering at Bed Bath & Beyond, as well.)  The customer service person at Target said that it would be four hours before the registry would appear.  I got online this morning at work to check it and IT'S NOT THERE!  I'm extremely irritated (My FI and I are long-distance; spending time together registering without the fruit of that labor is frustrating, to say the least.  We could have been cuddling!!) and I've asked the FI to call the store and ask them what happened.  If they can't restore it, I want to go elsewhere for a registry.  Any suggestions?

Macy's is good for a registry. We are doing Macy's and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

We are registered at Macy's and Williams Sonoma.  Both have been great and very easy to work with.

And that's one of the reasons we didn't register at Target.  Also, their return policy is the suck.  Seriously. If I were you, I would cancel that registry and go to BB&B and Macy's (we also registered at Pottery Barn, but that was just for the completion discount on some furniture we were eyeing). BB&B constantly has those 20% off coupons, and Macy's has sales all the time as well.  They also both have really good completion programs.

I will pitch the idea of Macy's to the FI.  Any ideas that are along the same lines as Target, besides WalMart?  We're looking for a store that is budget friendly, as the rest of our wedding/marriage goals are centered around simplicity and spending less in general. :)

I would def. stay away from Target...like hrparker said...their return policy sucks big time!! Why do you have to register at 2 places?? We are only registering at BB&B since they have such a large assortment of items and they are pretty much everywhere. Just a thought?

I think it's nice to register at two places to give your guests a choice; they might prefer one store to another, or have one that's closer. We registered at Macy's and Kohl's.  I gave my fiance the choice of Kohl's or BBB, and he chose Kohl's, although I would have been happy with BBB.

We have guests invited from all over the country and even from outside of the country; we'd like to be sure people have options and that we select a store that is near them.  Also, we really would like a place where we can get electronics like a TV and a GPS.  Target also had a large selection of board games, which we like a lot. I hadn't thought about Kohl's, but they are lacking in what we're looking for in a second store.  Keep the suggestions coming!  They're much appreciated!

I would stay away from Target at all cost. I worked there for three weeks back in college to pick up extra money and after watching how they handle registries you want to stay away. I watched one bride return over 6 sets of duplicates only to be told that since she didnt have the gift receipt (they didnt include it and it was on her registry) she would get the lowest price that it has ever sold for. I couldnt believe how mismanaged that program can be. There are plenty others - Macys, Crate and Barrel, BBB, that do a great job on a registry. You can skip Target and the hassle and save yourself a lot of energy. They probably cleared the gun and never checked to see if it was uploaded.

You could also try Sears, they will have all the kitchen and bathroom stuff and they will also have the electronics.

Macy's is EVERYWHERE.  And they have the electronic stuff you're looking for.Just sayin'....

Agree, I LOVE target as a store but they SUCK for registries.  We did BB&B and Macy's.  BB&B is really good (they'll give you back CASH!) and Macy's completion program is really nice.  We completed our Waterford China for really cheap and stacked the free rim soup bowl promo on top.For electronics, Amazon perhaps?

I'm joining the bandwagon-- Target is a horrible place to register. We registered there and we had the hardest time returning items. We registered with Bed Beth and Beyond and Macy's as well, and they were awesome with their registries + returning items... I highly recommend them both.  I wish we would have registered at Crate and Barrel!

Ditto all pp for Target!  I would only register for items there if you really can't get them elsewhere!

I'm not speaking from personal experience so I don't know if this is really a good idea or not, but how about Amazon. That's a place that has everything and free shipping on purchases of $25 or more, right?

I haven't registered yet but I think that kohls would be a good place especially for kitchen things.  They are very budget friendly.  And I definitely wouldn't go to target because of the return policy.

I registered at Target and BBB on Saturday as well. Our BBB registry pulled right up online. I called the Target registry line on Sunday and they said that there was an issue with the registries getting uploaded to the website. The customer service rep was able to pull up my registry and if I were to go to the store, I could pull it up on the kiosk without issue.  They arent sure when this issue will be resolved. There's really nothing we can do until it's up. I can't erase a registry that isn't there. I've seen some bad reviews re: Target's registry, so I'm a little concerned. Anyone out there that just got married and had a GOOD experience with Target?? I love to shop there, but have no experience w/ the registry. Thanks!

We had a bad expeience with Target too as our registry.  They gave us a 'present' for registring.  Which was a pouch filled of EXPIRED coupons.  Not just expired from a few weeks, but over six months ago!  We returned it and they handed us another one filled with expired coupons.  It was ridiculous.  We rather not get anything.  Then after registry all the items we registered for have been discounted because it's a new season.  We also registered at Macy's.  Macy's was wonderful with customer service and we had a lot less items discontinued with the season change than Target.

MLjen: Yeah, that's when we registered!  That's exactly what they told us.  I'm dying to know when the heck it's going to be available.  They said "soon" but that is not a good estimation.  If I told my boss I'd do somethinghe requested "soon" he'd probably ask me if I wanted to keep my job!  If it doesn't show by Saturday, I'll be calling and requesting them to close it and we'll go somewhere else.

gsusvs-- you can definitely register somewhere else in the meantime, even if the Target registry isn't "closed." We had 3 registries so that people would have a choice in where to go.  On one of our bridal shower invites, we didn't even write "Target" on one of them because I had learned about their return policy... so I didn't get any gifts from there from that shower.

I had the same problem!  I wanted to register at a lower price place, but not Wal-Mart.  So Target seemed like a great option, and I really love their stuff.  I knew that tons of people had said bad things, but we went ahead and registered.  Well the first time, after driving 45 minutes to target, the not nice at all lady at the service desk said the machine for the registry was down and there was noting we could do.  We would have to come back.  So we went back (I should have know better), and we added lots of things to our registry (in the store) and then when I got home half the stuff was showing up as “not available” and I had just seen it!  After a few weeks a few thing started to fall off the registry and say they no longer carried the item, but says nothing about what it was.  So to this day I don’t know what those items were.  I ended up taking everything that Target and BBB both carry and switching it to my BBB registry.  So there ended up being about 10 items at target.  And to be honest almost everyone has went to BBB, I think people just really like working with the registry there more than other stores.  Good luck, but I would definitely advise not using Target. Sorry that was really long!  :)

I think I'm going to have the fiance go to the store location and print out the registry just in case we need it.  I may do what you did, WalteR and Ivory.  I hope we don't have to do all that work, though.  Grr.

update: i just called and spoke with a wonderful rep. My registry DID pop up on target's website, but items were missing. They are still "there" but it's part of the overall issue. If i go to store, and print out from their kiosk, it's all there. So, i'm just happy to see some of it up! It should work out "soon" they said. And "soon" last time took 4 days or so. If by Saturday we still have issues, I'll rethinkg, but we have until March 2010, so no need to make any rash decisions now. Good luck to everyone else!

I've actually heard not so great things about Target and their return policy also.  We are doing Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macys, and Lowes.  We are just now in our first house so we need a lot of different things but would like to work on the house.  We figured this would give people lots of options and Lowes was a blast for my fiance!!
