Oh no!!!!

I have a UTI!!! What terrible timing!! And I'm sooo uncomfortable right now and I know it's going to be ten times worse as the night goes on and into the morning!!! Anyone have experience with these?? I use to get them all the time and just wait for antibiotics to kick in, but can't afford to be in pain most of the day tomorrow!!! The urinary pain relief pills aren't doing the trick either!! Can the doc give me a shot of antibiotics to make it stop faster???? Argh!!!

Sorry you have to deal with this. My first suggestion is to call your doctor asap. They should be able to give you antiobiotics that should help in 1-2 days.  The key is to treat it before it gets worse. In the mean time, drink cranberry juice and lots of it :) Good luck and hope you get better very soon!

Since I am a RN I can offer some suggestions... first depending some on how bad the UTI is they can give a shot BUT it still takes time to kick in... did they not give you any actual pain pills for comfort? Here are some things that might help with the discomfort... Drink lots of water, it is very important for your system to have a good flow of urine it helps to cleanses your body by diluting and flushing out the unwanted substance, and cranberry juice because it disallows bacteria to cling to the cell, which line the urinary tract. It is a great remedy to fight this infection! They even have cran pills now, drink 2 tbs of pure lemon juice with 1 tbs of water... it helps to relieve some pressure and pain! A mixture of 1/2 tsp baking soda in a eight ounce glass of water... the presence of baking soda in your system raises the acid-base balance of the acidic urine. If they didnt give you pain pills you can take up to 5 Aleve every 6 hours =) Hope this helps! And good luck sweetie!

Regarding pp: ***I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TAKING 5 ALEVE EVERY 6 HOURS. This dose has not been FDA approved and is certainly not sound medical advice.****There have been multiple FDA studies to say that cranberry juice (or cranberry pills, etc etc) is no more effective in relieving pain or clearing up the UTI versus water in UTI infections. I Suggest taking the urinary acidifier (ie pain reliever) that your MD prescribed, and the Abx. Drink alot of water (which will help flush the antibiotic thru your kidneys and out thru your urinary tract, which is how most drugs are metabolized in the body, and how it kills the bacteria). Your pain will start to subside in 24-48 hours. You can take Ibuprofen 800mg (4-200mg tabs) every 8 hours with food as a safe recommendation for most patients in severe pain only. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist for specific suggestions (ie, email me).Thanks. Your friendly Cincinnati Pharmacist.

Did you mean the OTC urinary pain relief pills?  I can't remember the name of them, but I think it begins with "A."  They're the ones that turn your urine a lovely shade of orange.  Anyway, I took them and they helped before the antibiotics kicked in.UTIs are no fun--we all feel your pain!

Turns out the OTR urinary pain relieve pills (yes - the orange ones) that I had in the medicine cabinet expired in January. Ugh.  So, I was getting all the orange pee but no pain relief.   I had Brad go to the store and get new ones.  Seemed to work.  It was either that or the Hydrocodone I took last night. Calling the doc in 1 minute.  They open at 8:30.  What a PITA!

I get UTI's all of the time, unfortunately.  For me the best thing is to continue drinking lots of REGULAR cranberry juice.  Best kind is where cranberry juice is the FIRST ingredient listed.  Take those otc pills that turn your pee orange and they will help the spasm and pain.  Def take the antibiotic your dr gives you.  Usually the pain will subside within about 24 hours and does get better as time goes on.  I feel for ya sweetie!!

I used to get UTI's all the time. One time my doctor told me I was drinking too MUCH water, and not enough other fluids. I had essentially diluted my urine and it was too basic, and didn't have enough acidity to kill the bacteria that was causing the problems. I recommend the cranberry juice, like other people have said. Not the cranberry cocktail, but pure cranberry juice. The sugar in the cocktail is the bacterias favorite thing. Good luck! Those are absolutely miserable! Oh, and make sure you FINISH your antibiotics. I know that is common sense to SOME people, but if you dont finish them, your infection could come back and be even worse. Not fun for honeymooning!
