Tanning

Is anyone tanning or plan on tanning before their wedding? If so, how many times do you think you'll go? I very much dislike tanning beds, but feel I need some color. TIA.

I got spray tanned at Avalon Salon in Hyde Park for a weddnig I was in this past weekend -- and I was WAY impressed. I went in on Weds -- and by friday, the color was PERFECT, and wasn't coming off all over my clothes (which had been my experience with self tanners in the past). Not sure if it would be an issue with a white dress, but I am totally sold on spray tans now. ;)

my husband and I both went tanning but not for the wedding- we went in preparation for Mexico. We both love to be outdoors and didnt want to end up with a sun burn. We went two times a week for two weeks and went three times a week the week prior. We did our last visit two days prior to the wedding and it was perfect.

I have been tanning for about the past month because I have halter strap tan lines from my bathing suit I wore on vacation.  I go 2 to 3 times a week and have gradually built myself up to a level 2.  I plan on within the next week or so increasing up to a level 3.  I only go about 12 minutes.

i tan pretty easily so I started already to get rid of some tan lines on my back since my dress has a keyhole. I go about 1 to 2 times a week and go the maximum time (the first time i went half and then two thirds the time). I would not trust the people that work there cause they told my FI to go in for 7 of 12 minutes the first time he tanned (and he told them he burns easily!) He was a lobster!

FI and I have been going almost every day for the past week.  We just don't want to burn on the HM.  We started w/ 5 mins, went up to 7, and just started 10 mins. last night.  We are going to keep going every day or so until the hm so that we can get a nice base before we leave so we don't burn.

I am normally not a fan of tanning, but this summer I was unable to even get a base tan because of how busy I was. I don't want to be straight-from-the-beach tan at the wedding, but I don't want to get to Hawaii, get a bad sun burn, and be miserable. Ha, FI works outside during summer and is able to tan very easily and quickly. So his arms and face are nice and tan, the rest of him are white, white, white. :) So FI and I will be tanning for a month or so before the wedding. Just to get a base tan.

Is anyone tanning or plan on tanning before their wedding? No, no, no, no, no, no, no no.Tanning = bad for your skin.  As in really bad for your skin.  As in sunspot, wrinkles, and cancer bad for your skin.  I've had several family members develop skin cancer, so I'm pretty sensitive about this issue. You do NOT need a base tan to go to HI, or to the Caribbean, or to anywhere else.  You shouldn't be exposing yourself to the sun in those locales anyway.  I am translucently pale, I did not tan before my wedding, and I spent a week in the Caribbean at the beach - and yet I didn't burn.  Why?  Because I made sure to bring a quality sunblock w/ a high SPF (we used the Neutrogena Sunblock Ultra Sheer SPF 70 spray for everwhere but our faces - faces got a more sporty formula to resist running into eyes)  If you want some color on your wedding day, or are trying to correct previous tan lines, just do the self-tanning.  I would highly recommend hand airbrushing--NOT Mystic Tan- you want a real person to be doing the work.  You'll get the color you're looking for without the risk of cancer.

Have to be a poo-pooer.  I always loved tanning and know it's nice to have that easy tan as opposed to trying to get the right color with self tanner...but a close friend of mine (who tanned religiously before her wedding, by the way - as well as previouslu), was just diagnosed with melanoma.  She is 28 years old, has been married only since February, and is pregnant with her first child.  The agony she is going through right now is not worth the tan!  She says her dad used to say you're going to get cancer and she'd reply "At least I'll be tan!"  She now realizes how stupid that is - I know we think it can't happent to us, but it really can!  I also know it seems like a few tanning sessions before your wedding is no biggie, but you are so much more likely to get skin cancer from a tanning bed than anything else.  If you're worried about burning on a vacation use sunscreen!  And I actually love self tanner, you just have to find the right one.  Please don't tan!!
