Week Day Weddings

Hi, I really want to have my wedding on the anniversary that we started dating but it's in the middle of the week (wednesday or tuesday I believe).  Should I still go ahead with it or is it too big of an inconvinience for people?

Re: Week Day Weddings

  • Would the "week of" your dating anniversary be doable? That sounds equally important!

I too would only attend a weekday wedding if a) it were right in my town or b) it was an immediate family member's wedding.
  • I would attend a weekday wedding depending on a few things.....

1, How much notice was I given about the wedding (for booking time off from work)
    2. Do I have the holdiay time
    3. how much time do I require to take off work to attend the wedding
    4. What is my relationship to the couple getting married

I to wanted to get married on the anniversery of when we started dating or when we met, however the day we met falls on a Sunday and the day we started dating falls on a Wednesday.  I originally picked a day that was important to me (7 is my favorite number), so I wanted to get married July 7.  The hall we wanted wasn't available so we got married the weekend after.

If you really want to get married on the day you met or started dating, get married on that date (as an elopment) then have a reception the following weekend.  Or decide what is more important to you, having the 1 anniversery day or being able to share this day with family and friends.

  • A mid-week wedding means that your guests need to take the day off work to attend your ceremony, or at least leave work early to come for your reception.  Expect very few guests to attend an afternoon ceremony.  Many guests would not drink and would leave early.  Do not have a dance after dinner.
If this sounds like the kind of wedding you'd like (that the exact date is that important to you) then go for it.  Alternatively you could wait until your dating anniversary falls on a Saturday (this will likely be several years).
