Wedding/Reception Locations

Hello everyone, I'm new to this board, originally planning a destination wedding in Las Vegas and now we want to look into locations in Orange County where we live. I went out to look at the Green Parrot Villa accross from the Bowers. The original owner is no longer there and it appears to be just a event location that you need to bring everything in. It's a bit more than I was hoping to take on. Any suggestions for an outdoor location where we can have both the ceremony and reception at that's budget friendly? we are looking at April 10, 2010 and thought a day wedding would be beautiful. We are expecting about 80 guests and will need about 10-15 hotel rooms for out of town guest. We are both is in our 40's and this is the first time for me. Any suggestions would be great! gloria

If you are willing to go to SJC I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Cafe Mozart ( www.cafemozart.net). I got married there and cannot rave enough about them. also, it is similar to the "look" of Green Parrot. Good Luck!

Congrats!  We were 43/45 when we got married this May.  You kind of go at things a little different when you're older.  I'm glad I waited! We got married on the Cal State Fullerton campus at the Golleher Alumni Center.  Great old spanish home with an indoor area where we had our ceremony and an outdoor patio for the reception.  We used 24 Carrots for catering (they had everything we needed) and we were able to bring our own booze in.  Our food was on the expensive side, but we had a ton of it and this was where we wanted to spend our mone.  The venue is very reasonable.  Having our own booze saved money - and got better wine.We had a planner, which made things a little easier - but many caterers will have rentals too.  She had a good suggestion for us on an April/May time frame.  If you have your wedding in April, make sure you have an indoor option in case of rain.  We pushed ours back to May for that reason.

We had our ceremony at Heritage Park in Fountain Valley.  They also have reception space.  You have to do a lot of the coordinating yourself there, but you could use a full service caterer (Spectacular and 24 Carrots are both super affordable) which would take some of the pressure off of you.

If you are looking for a location that has rooms right next to it try Pacific Edge in Laguna beach my friend had her wedding there a few weeks ago and it is beautiful and it is perfect for your size group. You also get to stay in the villa for the night.  I don't know what the rental fee is but they used Country Garden Caterers for the food and rentals.

My budget was $10,000 for everything - including dress, hair, etc. - and we were going to have the ceremony and reception at the Villa del Sol in Fullerton.  It used to be an old Spanish style hotel but now has several shops on the lower level (that close when events are scheduled). It has a great courtyard (already decorated - save $$$!) with a fountain and three on-site catering options. We had invited about 70 people to our wedding and we were about to pay $6000 for all of the catering, tables, chairs, servers, site rental, etc. (FYI - No drama to report.  We just decided to get married at an historic courthouse in OC and go to a wine bar with friends afterwards instead)Best of Luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies! As luck would have it, I found out my girlfriend's mom is friends with the owner of Green Parrot Villa and Confetti Party rentals.  He put together a great package for Sunday Brunch so we are switching the date to April 11, 2010 which is actually our 5 year dating anniversary. All this wedding planning is overwhelming for someone who's in her 40's that just assumed if she got married someday she would just elope!  Gloria
