No Outside Caterers allowed?

Hi everyone,I'm recently engaged and have been scouring the internet for locations to get married. I have a question - I have saved some vendors on my Knot account, but what does it mean when the location says "No Outside Caterer's Allowed"? My fiance and I are looking to have a buffet, would most locations just accomodate that if that is your request? I don't like the idea that other people are choosing the food for our wedding. Does this mean I'm limited to what they will serve? Please help, as you can see I'm a complete newbie!

From my understanding, it means that certain venues have certain catering companies that they hire.  Meaning, if there's a certain restaurant that you were thinking have cater the venue, they will not be allowed because they are an outside vendor. It basically means you have to pick a caterer from their approved list.Hope this helps!

In my experience, 90% of the venues around here are like that. For me it was preferable, one less vendor to find and worry about. And most places will do a buffet if that is your preference.

I doubt the buffet would be a problem at such a venue. I would just make sure that you taste the venue's caterer's food before you make a final decision on the venue. Their caterers might have the type of food you want, and the venue might tell you that the food has been a hit at other weddings, but since food is personal taste you'll want to make sure it meets your tastes.

It just means you have to used the catering company that they tell you. But don't worry, most places if not all, I went to had both buffet and sit-down.

thanks gals for easing my concern! yeah, from what i gather, the reason some venues have a preferred vendor is because this vendor knows the facility, knows the kitchen, knows the staff, and so forth! so phew, i think i'm feeling less anxiety now! :)
