? about Mary Me Bridal in Orange

Hi! I am considering ordering a Maggie Sottero bridal gown from Mary Me Bridal in Orange, CA and they are telling me the designer doesn't allow them to purchase this dress in a "Petite" size. She first said they could but not they say they can't. So they will charge me an additional $150 to alter it. I was wondering if anyone has bought from this bridal salon and how was their experience? Also has anyone been able to buy their gowns in a petite size or do you think they are trying to take me for a ride and get additional money from me? Should I just order it online from somewhere else? I'm kind of afraid to do that. I just don't know so best I ask first before signing the papers and putting the order in. Thanks!

I didn't order my gown there but my coworker's niece used them and had a good experience.  I've been to many wedding gown stores and I've never heard of being able to order a petite size, with the exception of some of the dresses at David's Bridal.  To my knowledge, most designers do not do petite sizes. What kind of alterations does the $150 include?  If it includes taking the dress in/out, a hem and a bustle, then that's a pretty good deal. Also, lots of local stores carry Maggie Sottero, so try calling them and getting quotes.  It never hurts to shop around.  Good luck!

Hey JenLeu...thanks! It's good to hear the good review of the place. I was told they could do petite but not in this style. I'm getting the "destinations by Maggie Sottero" dress. I will ask what the $150 includes. They told me they do all the tailoring onsite and it includes the bussling and cups (if you want them) and hemming. I will confirm that when I order. Thank you! And good luck to you too!

Hey! I ordered my dress from MMB and so far so good. All I've done so far is order it and try it on once it came in. I haven't gone for alterations yet or anything, so I can't be super helpful about that area. I don't know about petite ordering either, sorry. A friend of mine used MMB and she had a great experience, which is why I went there as well.

Maybe you should email the Maggie Sottero company directly and ask them if a petite can be ordered in the particular dress you want. That way you can be sure they are not fooling you just get the extra money.

I purchased my Maggie Sottero dress in a petite from Mariposa Boutique.  So check them out!  They didn't charge me anything extra and it was normal procedure for them to order the petite.  I checked out www.yelp.com before I went dress shopping to check out which boutiques in Orange County had good reviews and Mariposa had great reviews!  Good Luck!

That's awesome that MS makes petite dresses!  Ditto to pp about Mariposa...they're really nice there.  Definitely check them out.

Hey Girls...here's the update. I had a friend of mine call up the place she went to her bridal shop (back in NJ) just so she could call MS directly and they told her the same thing. Apparently the "Destination" collection style dresses don't come in petite. Well some do but not the one I want so..that being said there's not much I can do. I was glad to hear that answer though so not to think MMB was trying to take me for a ride. So I ordered it from MMB and they are telling me it's $150 to just hem it! Wow. That seems like a lot to just cut and hem but I understand it's a big dress and more fabric. They charge extra to bussle too. Ugh. They said I am not obligated to go through them but figure that's all those tailors do is work on bridal gowns so I should stick with them..right? Thoughts?? If not I can find an outside tailoring in the OC area. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I got my dress from Mary Me. I received an estimate of $300 for alterations (sew cups in, add a bustle, take the sides and halter neckline in, and pressing) before I ordered it. Once it came in, it was super huge on me and I also ended up needing it hemmed in the front and I had a more elaborate bustle put in (9 points) than originally expected so my alterations came in at a whopping $522! It was a lot of money but their alterations ladies did a really good job and my dress came out perfectly.

My alterations are going to be $500 flat rate, so $150 sounds great!

Well I'm told the $150 is only for hemming. I knew it was too good to be true. It's additonal cost for cups, bussle and whatever else. I am a little upset since the lady who orginally helped me told me it would all be included and done onsite. That's why I wanted to go with them. What can I do now? I either stay with them and have them do the alterations since it's onsite there and they are very experienced or I try to find another seamstress.

Ok I ordered my Maggie dress (Aretha) from MMB. They gave me a confirmation date and it came in about three weeks after that date. It took six months to get the dress. I had the hem brought up about four inches ($150) , a bustle ($75), pressing ($85), and it was $337.22. Final cost with tax and everything. It's a lot of money considering the dress was about $900 dollars with tax and everything too. I just didn't want to hassle with finding another seamstress and I know they work with bridal gowns all day, every day. They are expensive though. I agree. But ultimatly it's your decision where you want to have it altered. My experience has been so-so.

Kylee...Thanks for your post and costs for your alterations. This is good to know. I placed the order and will talk to them about alterations there. I'd like to do it all there since they know what they are doing. I am just upset they mislead me by saying it would all be included but oh well. I don't want to shop around for a seamstress...that's the main reason why I choose MMB b/c they do it all onsite. Good to hear your experience and I hope it gets all done and is perfect for you! Congrats.

Sarah, Yeah they also told me my dress came in ivory and it didn't. They also told me the confirmation date is when you get the dress. That wasn't so either. (We probably had the same person giving us the information that wasn't true). All in all, I know they will do a good job on the dress. I also like the fact that they have free storage of the gown as well. You can keep it there up until like two days before. So good luck, I know it will come out great! :)

Kylee...Ugh now you scared me and I'm gonna make sure the dress comes in Ivory b/c they told me it does too. Did you see MMB's reviews online. Many were not so great. That's not promising but I'm hopeful. My friend went there and ha no problems. I get married end of June so I hope I ordered in plenty of time. I will need to take it back to NJ. Thanks for letting me know your experience so I can stay on top of them. So far the bride's maid dress side has been more helpful, clear and on top of it. lol.
