Makeup - DIY?

Hey Guys!

Sooo unfortunately my FI and I had to part ways with our previous photogs (not too satisfied with customer service) and we're doing a SECOND engagement session with our new photogs.

To save money, I planned on doing my own hair and makeup since I had already had got it done for the first one and for a boudoir session....it's just all getting too expensive!

Have any of you gals done it yourself and liked how it turned out in professional pics? Any tips? I bought a lot of HD makeup....but not sure if I should just go to the MAC counter instead since it's just a $50 minimum purchase when you get your makeup done whereas I spent like $100 or more on makeup products? I guess I'd be keeping most of it anyway?

I'm getting nervous bc these will be the ones in our sign-in guestbook...I don't want them to look "blah". But then I have people telling me that I do my makeup just fine so I should just do it myself! I guess I've just been so spoiled with getting my hair and makeup done that I'd rather do that......but I just wanted to know what your opinions would be :P

Thanks!

That sucks about your first photographer. I'd say it depends if you really know how you want the pictures to turn out. If you're taking simple engagement pictures at the park I would say DIY. For example with my engagements pictures we get to choose five different locations and they have someone who will do my make up but I'm only only going to use her for two sessions. (which would be the "night out" one) And in the others I'm going to be doing my own makeup.

That makes sense!  Yeah it's going to be a casual engagement shoot. No night time shots...although that'd be nice :p

I'd say do it yourself. There are plenty of videos on YouTube and tutorials at places like Specktra.net that can help you come up with and perfect a look. Just make sure you give yourself a decent chunk of time to get ready before the pictures, so you can get everything just right.
