Officiant issues

So I've been looking into officiants in my area (Grand Junction) for my May 2012 wedding. All of them are so expensive! We are getting married at a hotel, and both of us are non-religious.

Since, in Colorado, you don't have to have an official marry you, we were thinking of having a friend do it. But I have no idea where to start and I don't want the whole ceremony to be a flop. Has anyone else had a friend do it?

What are my other options? What about judges, will they come and do it?

This link covers what is allowed for a legal marriage.  You can't have a friend marry you according to this, but you can marry yourselves.  We had a friend marry us, but signed the marriage license as if we married ourselves.  I wrote the entire ceremony word for word, which our friend followed, and it went beautifully.

there are a lot of websites for people to get a certified license to marry... even if a friend or family member gets a religious one,you can have an ambiguos ceremony.
