Needing info for officiant

Hi guys well me and my FI are getting married in September and what we want is for one of our best men to get ordained (there are a few places online I've looked at) and for him to marry us. Now I do not know how exactly this works in Missouri (specifically Greene county) I mean  have read the offical Mo law but honestly I am no law major lol. If this won't work our back idea is to find a Justice of the Peace and have them do the paperwork but still have the best man perform the ceremony...Now my question is does anyone know or have experience with family/friends performing marriages or does anyone know a Justice of the Peace?
SmileThanks so much for any input

We are having a friend get ordained and perform the ceremony. I am planning to find out more information about this tomorrow. I will post what I found out when I get back from the courthouse.
From what I know, your officiant has to be ordained through a church and in good standing with that church. You can do it on the internet. I will find out as much as I can and get back to you.

I called the greene county clerks office today and all they could tell me was from what they know that if you get ordained online it is valid as of right now. Its really very hard to find someone that is non-denominational to perform a ceremony. Well, I did contact can-a-lope yesterday and they charged 275 for a ceremony!!! EEEKKK!!!!

This is the law on who can perform a marriage ceremony in Missouri:

    Marriages solemnized by whom.

451.100. Marriages may be solemnized by any clergyman, either active or retired, who is in good standing with any church or synagogue in this state. Marriages may also be solemnized, without compensation, by any judge, including a municipal judge. Marriages may also be solemnized by a religious society, religious institution, or religious organization of this state, according to the regulations and customs of the society, institution or organization, when either party to the marriage to be solemnized is a member of such society, institution or organization.

If you want a friend to be ordained, check online and have them ge ordained with a church that says that it is a church of the state of missouri and then pay to have the letter of good standing included with his or her proof of ordination. The whole thing online ought to cost less than a hundred dollars. Hope that helps!

Yeah I have looked around at places like Can-A-Lope and the cost is outrageous lol (I mean I just want them to sign the paperwork if need be), Well as long as they are taking online ordinations that is cool, I know that the universal life church does free online ordination and creditionals and a letter of good standing are pretty cheap ($18 for letter of good standing and $6.99 for a standard certificate  credential or $11.99 for a wallet credential) So that is eaily done. I just am not sure if he will have to like do any kind of paperwork with the courthouse or anything, or just show his letter and certificate. Thanks for sharing :)
Oh and if you're interested here's the site for getting ordained online for free

Thanks for the website info. I can't recall which website our friend is going through to get ordained, but he will get the letter of good standing and the certificate. There is no paperwork that really needs to be done at the courthouse. You have to go get the certificate with your FH and pay for the marriage license. Then, you have to have it signed in front of the witnesses and then your minister has to sign it and send it in to the courthouse within a certain amount of time along with his or her credentials. I believe that's all there is to it, but when you go get the license, you ought to ask what your minister will need to do after the ceremony. Good luck with everything!
