suggestions for outside SD venues...

Hi,

I am trying to find a venue in San Diego that can:
- hold 150 guests
- outside ceremony at least
- $10,000 for food, site and rentals... and ideally a 2 hour hosted bar / wine and beer
- good place for an august 2011 wedding.

I know in order to hit this, I need to be leaning towards the private venues... i have looked at a ton of places but so far, site fees are about $4,000 and that only leaves $6,000 for other reception items. first off, is $4,000 too much? and, $6,000 for everything else seems hard to do... is it?????

Help! I am trying to not use a planner, and being that i dont live in SD right now, I think I have to hire one :).  any suggestions are greatly appreciated.   if it matters - total budget is $20,000.

THANK YOU!

Go for a resort or hotel that does not charge separate room costs.  Humphrey's By the Bay, Riverwalk Golf Resort, and Steele Canyon Golf resort all have outside venues.

I looked into Carlton Oaks golf course. I REALLY didn't want a golf course, but the ceremony site is very pretty and away from the actual golfing. Then they have an indoor hall for the reception. They included food and beverages (not alcohol) for around $30 per person. You could absolutely make it work with a 20K budget. I ended up going with the Town and Country hotel, which is more of a garden setting and it's fairly reasonably priced, but more than Carlton Oaks. Good luck planning.

We're getting married at Marina Village and having the reception there, too. It's not the nicest place we looked at, but it was the one within our budget, because we were able to use our own vendors. To give you an idea, I think we spent $2500 on ceremony and reception facility, which left the rest for food and drinks.

We selected The Prado at Balboa Park - you can do the ceremony at their beautiful outdoor garden by the reflecting pond and wishing well, and the reception in one of their ballrooms (they have several). The rates are good and food/drink minimums are very reasonable, I thought - lots of options. Also, they have very nice chairs, high quality table linens, etc included so you won't have to pay extra. Marcy Melley is the contact there. www.PradoBalboa.com

We also looked into Humphrey's Half Moon Inn on Shelter Island - they have a stunning outdoor location and their restaurant food is outstanding. Rates are excellent. We'll be having our guests stay there over the weekend.

Either of the above places can do both your ceremony and reception at the same location, which saves you money on transportation, photography, etc.

Look at Twin Oaks House and gardens. Not sure if you will be able to get your date (they book up to 18mo out) but they are all inclusive.  Karen who is the owner is amazing and plaus they only do one wedding a day :)

Well I love Grand Tradition and just signed my contract.  It depends how many people you are inviting though, it runs about $100 a head :(  Good luck!

You could look into Rancho Bernardo Courtyard.  Everything is outside.  You have to bring in a caterer, they have tables and chairs for 100 guests the remaining you need to rent (which needs to be done through the site but the price is reasonable), and if you choose they will let you buy all the alcohol to bring in and they will serve it.  The rental fee is $3,000 for 6 hours.

We are doing ours at Seagrove Park in Del Mar -- ceremony & reception for $1500... this does not include anything except the venue, but we are going to have a really low key wedding (about $8000 budget), and we're going to have a taco guy come & make tacos (only $525 for 125 people -- all you can eat!!!)
