weather in san diego

hello fellow san diego brides.  i am doing a destination wedding in san diego and trying to keep cost down was recently presented with the idea of doing a wedding in san diego in april.  in researching the weather it appears this is a colder yet sunny month and being from the south 70 or lower is cold to me.  my happy place is sunny, warm, and water/beach.  will this really matter?  will i care what the weather is/temperature on my wedding day?  any thoughts suggestions.  the prices are better from april-june but then we have june glume to consider?  the neat thing is the date in april we were given happens to be the same weekend we were engaged this year!

i need someone to decide this for me?

thank you

Re: weather in san diego

  • I hate spring here! It is beautiful everywhere else but pretty awful here, always chilly and gloomy. Although...if you hit wildflower season in Borrego Desert, that is beautiful! I always wanted a June wedding when I was younger, but we are having an August wedding now that we are in SD. So much nicer.
  • If you think 70 degrees is cold and you want a warm-weather wedding, San Diego in April is NOT a good idea. Like PP's said, it doesn't really get warm here until July at the earliest.

  • I agree with the PPs. In addition to that, we get "May Gray" in addition to "June Gloom". The coast is overcast almost every single day in May and June. It sometimes extends into the beginning of July.

April can be nice but you are taking your chances...  My cousin's wedding in April 2001 was a nice day, but definitely not really warm.  There were ocean breezes where she had it in Point Loma.

High wedding season is generally April-October (I think-- someone correct me if I'm wrong) so that can affect your prices as well.  Depends on how many guests you have coming!

I'm partial to September because the weather is gorgeous and the tourists are all gone.  As a native San Diegan, it can get tiring waiting for summer during the May gray & June gloom... then in July & August the beach is packed. So when September rolls around and it's still beautiful, I *love* it!

    Good luck with your decision!

  • When we picked our date I used this website to get the historical weather for the date over the past couple years, but there's still a chance it could be totally different any given year. If you want to check it out here is the site:

Our wedding is inland in Valley Center and after May it's usually blazing hot, the coast is much different. Good luck!
