Ceremony and reception on a 10K budget

Does anyone know of any venues we could have our wedding at (Spring or Summer 2012) for 10K or close to that amount?  Ideally we'd like the ceremony to take place over looking the water (beach or bay) and the reception to take place at the same location (indoors-banquet hall, restaurant, etc.) on a Saturday night.  We'd have a guest count of about 100 people and would like to have a sit down dinner with open bar.

    Hi there!

Cuvier Park in La Jolla is a nice place overlooking the ocean for a ceremony. I don't think it costs much to reserve it through the city.  It is also known as the Wedding Bowl as it is set down a bit from the main area and accessed by stairs.http://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/parks/shoreline/cuvier.shtml

There are a couple of nearby places for receptions, although I don't know how much they cost.  I believe all of them you have to bring in your own caterer.  La Jolla Women's Club has lovely gardens and a very nice indoor ballroom as well as getting ready rooms for the bride and groom.  http://www.lajollawomansclub.com/events.html

The La Jolla Cove Bridge Club is probably an affordable option....again, need to bring your own caterer.....sometimes places have a list of okayed cateres that you must choose from.  I can't find a website, so calling is the best thing. This is right down the way from the Wedding Bowl, so people can walk there, or you can have your ceremony on the large lawn, although there is a sidewalk and gate between you and the ocean.

    La Jolla Cove Bridge Club
    (Indoor, Outdoor, Ocean Views)
Beautiful setting in La Jolla Cove, with oceanview, seating inside, and an outdoor patio perfect for dancing under the stars.

Another option is the Del Mar Powerhouse....you can get married on the lawn, or on the patio overlooking the ocean.  Again, BYO caterer. http://www.delmar.ca.us/visitors/Pages/PowerhousePermitInformation.aspx. Indoor room for dinner and dancing, nice out door patio.

I don't know if you need to have food, chair and table and linen rentals, flowers, bar, DJ, photographer and everything for $10,000?  If so, you might have to be very creative. I'd probably do wine, beer and a signature cocktail to save money on alchohol and most people won't care a bit as long as they can drink something.

Posies Flowers are great and can work within your budget and give you creative options to save money. http://leighsposies.blogspot.com/

The Wild Thyme Company are great caterers that can work with your budget and the food is awesome. http://thewildthymecompany.com/

Ashley Wedding Videography are very affordable and do a very nice job. http://www.ashleyweddingvideography.com/

Unveiled Wedding Photography are awesome and can work with your budget.  www.unveiledwedding.com

Some of these places have chairs and tables, some you might need to bring your own.  Flowers by Azhar rents that stuff for a good price, as well as linens.  info.flowersbyazhar@yahoo.com.

If you have any military contacts that can sponsor you, getting married on one of the many military bases (most overlook the ocean) would be a way to do a wedding on a budget.

    Good luck!

You might also look at the Mission Bay Woman's Club. You can bring in your own caterer and alcohol. They provide table and chairs. You can also see the SeaWorld fireworks from the patio and adjacent park. http://www.mbwcinfo.com/id13.html

Doesn't overlook the water, but another nice, affordable venue is the La Mesa Community Center. They also have an outdoor area for the ceremony. They have a few different buildings available for receptions, table and chairs included. You can bring in your own caterer and alcohol. http://www.cityoflamesa.com/index.aspx?NID=554

West Coast Catering has some amazing food and really good prices. Their standard package comes with disposableware, but you can upgrade to heavy plasticware or china. They also do linen rentals. http://www.westcoastcater.com/cateringSanDiego/index.htm

It is very possible to plan a wedding in San Diego for $10k (we did ours for just a little bit more than $10K), but you will probably have to be a little creative and flexible. DIYing some things can help cut costs. Also, cupcakes are generally cheaper than cakes. We did cupcakes with a 6" cake on top of the cupcake tree, so we could still have the cake cutting, from Twigg's Bakery. They were delicious and about half the cost of a cake. http://twiggs.org/simpo2/content/pages/Wedding%20Cakes.aspx

Doing your own flowers, or at least some of them, is another way to cut costs. We got the flowers for our cake/cupcakes, centerpieces and BM bouquets from Wholesale Flowers. http://www.flowersandsupplies.com/

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thank you for the information!  I will look into your suggestions.  $10K is for the wedding and reception.  I'll have additional funds for flowers, band, photographer, etc., but it seems that most of my budget is being taken over by the reception!

Oh, if the $10k is just for the wedding and reception, you should be fine. Friends of ours got married at the Bali Hai last spring and it was really nice. Outdoor ceremony right by the water and reception inside.

I've also heard good things about Tom Ham's Lighthouse.

Bali Hai is a great location, my friend got married there about two years ago and the staff was excellent, seemed like a great location and I don't know here total but it was pretty affordable.  Also, if you are looking to keep cost low for photography you should check out my photographer, www.corbinkell.cc, he has packages that go with almost any budget

I recommend the Coronado Community Center right on the bay in Coronado. Beautiful location and you can have both the ceremony and reception there.

I've seen some gorgeous weddings taking place on the lawn in front of the beach at Powerhouse Park in Del Mar. I think all the catering and decorations you'd have to provide yourself because it's just a park.

I would also recommend Twin Oaks House and Garden (twinoaksweddings.com). It's not on the water however. It's is very green and surrounded by Eucalyptus.  I'm getting married there is September. The prices are reasonable and a lot is included. It's got an adorable gazebo for the ceremony and a big beautiful lit up tent for the reception.

We are getting married (2/4/2012) at the Ocean View Villas in Point Loma:  http://watermarkvacations.com/Weddings_Special_Events.html

They are a beautiful location that can accomodate a wedding of up to 200 guests.  You can definitely do the ceremony and reception there for your budget (however, summer will be more than spring).  They are right on the water and, depending on tides, have their own private beach.  A bonus is, everyone in your party can stay there and you can possibly recoup some of the cost with guests staying in the Villas.  Check their calander on the website to see available dates for your big day!

Thanks to all the other posts, I now have some great ideas for our wedding.
