Percent attending

So our wedding is in a couple weeks and we have heard from most of our guests. I was talking to my mil yesterday and she is convinced that 10% of the people who RSVPd yes will not show based on that's what happened at her daughters wedding 5 years ago. She told me to tell the caterer and other venders less people then those who RSVPd. I think I should tell the full amount that RSVPd so that way if they show up they will have a chair and food. What do you guys think?

I agree with pp, give a full headcount.  Are you having a seated dinner or buffet?  You might be able to get away with this if you are having a buffet, but it is iffy.

We gave a full headcount because we had a seated dinner with entree choices.  We had I think 170 RSVP yes, and 9 or 10 didn't show.

I had five people not show.  I've never been to a wedding reception where there weren't no-shows.

Depending on the cost, I'd probably knock at least two dinners off, maybe more if you're having a buffet.  If you're locked into spending a minimum amount, though, you might not want to reduce the number at all.  I had to pay for 100 whether that many showed or not, but I did give them the actual number since it was lower.
