NWR- e-books

I know we spoke about these before in the past but quite honestly I'm way to lazy to be going through a thousand posts to find it =) so...

If you have a e-book whether it's the kobo, kindle, or a different one can you please tell me what you like/dislike about it and whether you recommend yours or a different one.

TIA!

Re: NWR- e-books

  • My FI had a Kindle when we got together and swore up and down that I would love it if I gave it a chance.  So, I did and then it slipped into the tub as I slipped out.  I killed another one the same way so now I stick to reading the old fashioned way and he uses the Kindle app on his phone or iPad.  I'll read on my phone, too if I'm not in the tub or near an actual book, but it's just safer for me to stick to the paper versions.Embarassed

  • I love my kindle and FI loves his as well.  I have the original bigger bulky version but he has the new one that is smaller.  We bought the ones that are not back lit so it seems you are just reading a book like normally.  It's great since if I finish a book and I want another I can just buy one or read one that I already downloaded which is very handy on vacations.

  • I have a nook color and absolutly love it! Books are cheeper on it then if I buy the hard copy. Plus I can get the book right away and not have to wait until I have time to go to the store. With the color, it is basically a tablet. Though I don't have the new nook tablet I do have plenty of apps. I play angry birds on it all the time! I also like that if there is a problem, which actually i haven't had in the year that I've had it, I can just bring it to my local Barnes and Noble instead of having to call costumer service and possibly send it away. The color does have some glare, since it is similar to a tablet rather than e-ink, but it honestly hasn't bothered me. My father has the e-ink version though and he loves that. Really the difference is that I wanted the apps.

  • I have a regular Kindle and really like it for travel.  It's great when I'm on vacation and I finish a book b/c I can download another one :) It's really easy to read it outside b/c there's no glare.  The Kindle Fire looks really cool, but I don't know much about it and haven't seen it in person.

  • I have a kindle keyboard and I love it.  I love how easy it is for me to just get a book and since i travel for work it is super convient.

My dad just bought the kindle fire and it is really awesome however has very poor battery life (only like 8 hours)  my Kindle last for like a month before i need to  plug it in again.
  • I have a Kindle and I love it. When FI bought one, I thought it was ridiculous, but when I gave it a shot, I was hooked. I have one with e-ink, the ones that don't need backlight, and I love that. It is a very different experience than reading from a regular screen. I read the book club book that way :). I love it way more than FI's ipad, which we honestly don't use a lot.

I would not want to get the Kindle Fire or another one with color and apps, because I love the fact that this screen doesn't use light and there is nothing to distract me from just reading. Also, the regular Kindles have a battery that lasts very long (like a month). It definitely makes it very easy to get the books that I want to read. I also use it for work a lot, because I can send PDF's and Word documents to it.

I'll stop now, because I start to sound like an ad. I do recommend the Kindle, but I heard good stories about other e-readers too. However, I would only buy one with e-ink.

  • We have a Kindle.  I love it.  I didn't think I would, but once I started reading on it I liked how much lighter it was than an actual book.  I still read non e-books, like right now I am STILL reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  I am going to finish it.

I love my Kindle. I also read on my iPad, but I think that the experience of reading on the Kindle e-ink is pretty darn close to reading a physical book. FI and my family chipped in for the iPad for my birthday two years ago, and he also got me the Kindle when it dropped in price. Honestly I love being able to read without having to have a bunch of books all over the place. Also like that I can borrow books from the library electronically. No more late fees! The books just expire after 14 days and you have to check them out again of you aren't done yet. I'm terrible with bringing stuff back in time.
  • I have a Kindle Fire and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!  I use it all the time!  I dont have a problem with battery life bc I keep the wifi turned off unless I am actually using it.  That helps with battery life a ton.  I have charged mine less than 10 times since I got it in January.  Its amazing!  I read like 15 books the first month that I had it.  I'm a fast reader but its also fast and easy to get a new book!   My girls read books on it too and my little one has a couple of books that read to her.  Thats so helpful if she has to come along with me to a short meeting or something.  She can just sit and listen to a couple books or play a puzzle game or something.  We also can watch streaming videos thru Amazon (with Amazon Prime...which you get a 30 day trial of) and Netflix.  You can also borrow 1 free book each month if you have Amazon Prime which is nice!  I just save the more expensive books for my free one each month!  I also have 3 wedding magazines on mine and love that too!  I have TK, Martha Stewart Wedding & Brides.  It updates whenever the new one comes out automatically too.  Anyhow...I am obviously in love with my Kindle Fire.  I cant imagine going back to a regular Kindle now!

  • I have the first kindle and I like it, but I still read paper books most of the time. I like the feel of it better. FI has used both the kindle app and the nook app on his iPad and prefers the nook much more over the kindle.
