Getting a Friend/Family Member Ordained???

Hey girls! Has anyone had a close friend or family member become ordained just to marry them? I just wanted to know a little bit about the process and if it is a lot of hassle. Thanks in advance for any info!

My brother got ordained through the Universal Life Church.  I'm pretty sure it took him about 10 minutes, and I'm not even sure he had to pay anything.

Just make sure you check your state's statutes regarding who can perform marriage ceremonies because every state is different and some might not accept that ordination.  We are in KY, and here is a link to the Atty General's guide to marriage laws in KY http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=6&ved=0CDkQFjAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fag.ky.gov%2FNR%2Frdonlyres%2FF6D771F7-EF59-487F-A67C-9478C2E94B49%2F0%2Fkentuckymarriagelaw.pdf&ei=7pdlTJDPH5WgnQekgInFDA&usg=AFQjCNGrNErC0aJNjOv3SRohTNdFmRka2g

btw, I'm so glad we asked a family member to get ordained to do this.  It was so nice having a family member perform our ceremony rather than a hired JOP who knew nothing about either of us.  Plus I think it was a nice way for him to be involved in the day.  HTH!

Ohio has odd rules so make sure you check out at the Ohio Revised Code and I beleive it is section 3101. I am pretty sure anyone who is licensed can do it. I do know you have to get your license and only have 30 days to get married before it expires.
I am still looking and we are not sure what we are going to do.

Even the Universal Life Church website (where they get ordained) warns people to check with their individual states to make sure just the ordination is all that's necessary.  In OH they must be licensed by the state whereas KY will recognize anyone who has a LICENSE in any other state (not just ordination).  Check and double check to save embarassing red tape in the future!
