Donation Favors?

I was recently at a wedding that did donation favors. They had three marbles at each place setting and then had three  large jars on a table next to the gift table. There were instructions to place a marble (or all the marbles) in to a jar(s) of our choice. They had the Ronald McDonald House, the Humane Society and St. Judes. Then they would count the marbles in each jar and donate 1.00 per marble to that charity.

I love this idea, but I was thinking about doing it somehow with the bottle caps from the beer. I know the places that I am looking at do bottled beer (not tap) and they collect the caps, but I was thinking that we could have signs on the bar telling them what to do and then have the bartender give them the caps and have the jars on the bar or have a table near the bar.I was thinking it would save us money and we could recycle the caps also. Do ya think it sounds good or a hassle at the bar. That is my concern.

Re: Donation Favors?

  • i think it sounds awesome!
  • I Love that idea! :)
  • that is an awesome idea! you might want to ask the venues what their policy is on the bottle caps. some won't give them out for reasons unknown to me. but if you could make that work it would be great to have a duel use for something that would just be thrown away.

The only problem I see is you are sort of excluding guests who do not drink (kids, DDs, pregnant/nursing moms, etc) from being able to participate in the selection process. maybe if you had a way for them to be invovled like pop tabs or water bottle caps...
  • While in theory the idea sounds nice, it's not exactly a favor.  If you want to make a donation, do so, but it's really not a "gift" to your guests.  And PP has a point that if you do choose to do this, you're excluding guests that don't drink.  And sometimes people can get offended if you choose charities they don't support.

Personally, I'd make the donation and leave it out of the wedding rather than call it a favor.
  • Do what feels  best to you.  The marble scene was obviously well received - so go with what's in your heart.
  • That is the COOLEST idea, I think I am going to steal it . I think it is a GREAT favor idea! I mean who needs another bag of chocolates or mints and most of the weddings I go to the favors are just left sitting on the table. I think this is way cool.
