Lets talk HONEYMOONS!

I'm at work... attempting to avoid doing work... so who wants to talk about Honeymoons?!? Fiance and I just started discussing this... Wedding is April 2nd but we are waiting a little bit and doing the honeymoon in late April. We want to do the typical all-inclusive beach deal & I recently became obsessed with the idea of St. Lucia. Anyone been? What did you think? For those that have not...

What are/did you do for your Honeymoon? When is/was it? Let us know what you have planned - or for the married ladies, give us a review of yours!!

I looked at St Lucia- EVERYONE was going there in 2009 when we got married. I actually have a friend there right now. I ended up getting a great deal on Mexico since there were swine flu scares so we were able to go to Cozumel for 10 days vs 7 and still save some money. We had been to the resort we stayed in so we knew what to expect. My husband is a very busy person, so we needed something where he could stay busy. I liked to lay on the beach or pool and read and I was able to do that as well.
My suggestion - find your max budget - and what you are comfortable spending. Look around in different areas. Do you want all inclusive (I will tell you after the wedding planning and stress not having to worry about money is AWESOME). Read reviews on Trip Advisor. Read All of them. make a short list of places in different areas and ask for opinions. Most of the ladies on these boards are great at sharing their experience (even post on the cincy nest). You can get a great deal if you search around (we left on a Sunday after a Friday wedding - I suggest an extra day to rest) and got a better deal than a Saturday or Monday departure.

Good luck - btw we stayed at the Cozumel Palace - I would recommend ANY of the  Palace Resorts. You are treated like a queen.

We also looked into St Lucia but then decided we did not want to spend that much money. We decided on The Royal Playa del Carmen and we are staying for 10 nights and saving a lot of money from what we would have paid for St Lucia for 5 days! I can not tell you about it yet, we leave on Sunday... WOO HOO!! So I will review once we return. Good luck with your planning process. Another tip, we looked around for months, even after we decided on the Royal to see how low we could get it. We ended up spending apprx $1500 less just because we waited a few extra weeks to book.

We also planned on heading to St. Lucia.  However, once we started looking at costs, we realized that we could go to Sandals in Jamaica in one of the largest rooms w/ a butler for the same cost of a standard room w/o room service in St. Lucia.  Plus, since Jamaica is closer, we got cheaper flights and get to spend more time at the resort!

As of right now, it's looking like my fiance and I will be honeymooning in Afghanistan- all expenses paid- courtesy of the United States Army. :/  But at least we'll be there together.  If the deployment (fingers crossed) doesn't happen, we're going to Italy- Tuscany.  :D

We booked Secrets Maroma Beach in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Its an adults only all inclusive resort on one of the best beaches in the world. We looked into Sandals St Lucia, but its wayyy more expensive and we just get alot more bang for our buck in Mexico.

We have been trying to look into St. Lucia also but we aren't getting married until the end of next September, so we can't book airfare yet. I've been wanting to go there for a while now but the price is pretty steep.

Thanks ladies - this was entertaining & helpful!! TeamBaby I'v got my fingers crossed for you... an Italy honeymoon sounds great!

St. Lucia does seem to be one of the more expensive options as far as the Caribbean goes - but I'm not ruling it out! I'm lucky in that I grew up in a family w/ a Dad that LOVES his tropical vacations - so I have been all over & really want to honeymoon somewhere I have never been, so that fiance and I can explore it together! :)

    Keep the ideas coming!

We are flying to London for two days, then taking the chunnel to France and staying in Paris for 5 days, then back to London for two more days.

I believe we are waiting a week after the wedding before we actually leave for our honeymoon.

We are waiting five days after the wedding to head to our honeymoon in Belize!  We're staying at a resort called The Phoenix - very highly recommended on Trip Advisor.

We are going to Florence and Rome, but have no idea when we are going now. We originally wanted to wait a week or so after the wedding, but now my sister just got engaged this week and is getting married 2 months later than I am. Since I'm her MOH, I'll have a lot to help her with and want to be able to relax and not think about weddings haha....So we'll see, but that's where we are headed :)

We booked Sandals St Lucia ended up changing to Jamaica. We stayed at the Royal Caribbean loved it! We visited the Sandals Montego Bay i wouldn't recommend that one. I have also heard wonderful things about Sandals Negril.
