Reception/cocktail

Did anyone have a slideshow or something similar play at the reception?  We are thinking of maybe doing a cocktail hour, and have something play while we do pictures, or have something play while we eat?  Has anyone does this before, does the DJ provide something?  Or the venus itself?  I think it would be a cool thing to show, but FI isn't sold.

Maybe engagement pictures?

Talk to your DJ.  Usually you can just make something yourself to show and not worry about additional cost.  We played our pictures from our childhood up until our engagements, during the reception.  We just had it looping the whole night.  Depending on your venue they sometimes let you rent screens.  If your fiance isn't sold you guys can just make something yourself.

My FI isn't sold on this idea either.  It took me awhile to see his side of it, but after talking it over, I actually ended up agreeing with him about not showing a slideshow.  We've been to a lot of weddings where couples have shown slideshows, and I usually end up thinking to myself, "That's nice, but do we have to watch this all night long?"

The best slideshow compromise that I've seen was one that was shown while the couple was doing their first dance.  It worked out perfectly because it didn't take time away from the party and guests didn't feel obligated to stand around and watch it.  The people who wanted to see it (moms, dads, etc.) were able to watch it, while the rest of us could catch a glimpse and then grab a piece of cake.

That's just our opinion on it...

We are having cocktails and dinner inside our venue then dancing outside under a tent. Outside in the tent, we are going to have a slideshow loop of pictures from both our childhoods up thru the time we dated. I think it really adds a nice touch and we made sure to include old pictures that have some of our family members in them that will be at the wedding, I think they will get a kick out of that :)

I am making the slideshow - just putting pictures into a PowerPoint presentation. We are providing the laptop and projector and our venue is providing the screen.

We have a bunch of digital photo frames, so we thought about setting them up with slideshows during cocktail hour.  That way, it's not being shoved in the guests' faces, but they can still watch if they want.
