Ohio-Cincinnati

Just starting out...

So thinking about reception venues and there are two that are in the running so far...

The Redmoor...loads of character, fun atmosphere, "Moulin Rouge"-y feel which I love, but somewhat hard to get to for guests

Nathaneal Greene Lodge...woodsy feel, big A frame windows, easier to get to for guests

Anyone have suggestions about which way to go based on experience? Postive and negative experience stories welcome :)

Thanks in advance! :)

    Congrats and welcome!!

I haven't been to either place, but I can tell you the guests will follow your lead.  We had our reception at the Syndicate and did a Vegas night.  I was a little worried about how the guests would react, but they loved it.  They really got into it.

How do you see your wedding?  Are you outdoorsy people, or are you more into the nightlife?  Don't worry about guests getting there.  We had our usherettes pass out directions from the chapel.  It worked better than putting it in the invite.

Don't be afraid to make it what you want.  As long as the guests have a chair, food and alcohol, they'll be happy.  Don't fall into the trap of 'this is what a wedding is supposed to look like'.  My confession: I've never understood why people play classical music leading up to the wedding (unless it is a Catholic Mass, where it is required).  Why do things that don't relate to them as a couple?  What meaning does that have them?  Is it because it's labeled 'wedding music?'  It's just my own little thing.  I love weddings that are couple centered, rather than wedding centered, so take my .02 cents for what it's worth Tongue out

    Good luck on your planning!

We looked into both places and both were really lovely in different ways. Just like mrs. dilligaf said, though, we wanted to stay true to what felt good to us as a couple. We both loved the history and the drama of Union Terminal so we are putting our heart and soul into making a 1930's wedding come alive in a fabulous historic building. Figure out what you want your evening to be and let that lead you.

I'm having my wedding at The Redmoor on September 17th and am very excited about it! Such a beautiful venue! I'm not too worried about people not being able to find it. The Marquee with your names on it should help and I put parking instructions on our wedding website (Redmoor does have a parking lot behind the building). Sparkleas1 wrote a great review of The Redmoor after having her reception there (just search the boards for The Redmoor). I plan on writing a review after the big day, but feel free to message me if you need details/pictures.

I'm having mine at the Nathaneal Greene Lodge but not until March. I loved the feel of the venue and have heard nothing but great things about the food there. I wanted a place that wasn't too banquet hallish and this venue had just enough character for me. The staff has been nothing but great about communication so far too.

Oh my gosh, cwulfkat! MY wedding is going to Sept 17....2011! That is too funny, I'm kind of taking it as a sign.

Thanks for all the great advice, guys! It really is a matter of whether or not I want it to be a "me and joe" wedding or an "everyone" wedding :) Lots of thinking to do!!

That really is funny! Again, I'd be happy to share info about the place with you once we've experienced it.

We just attended a wedding at Redmoor and it was spectacular.  The food was awesome!  Why do you consider it hard to get to?  It's three minutes off Columbia Parkway.

You should check out The Madison in Covington. They have exceptional ballrooms and, even though they have multiple ballrooms in one building, they are on different floors- so it makes you seem like you are the only event there. Plus the priciing is reasonable, it is near hotels, the "free" wedding planners are great, and can accommodate a wide range of guest counts. We are having our reception there next summer.

APaganelli, I agree, the Madison is amazing.  That was our top choice.  Their all-inclusive packages start at $40/pp.  The all-inclusive is great because it's like the entire wedding, including your own personal wedding planner, is paid just by one price!  I am a huge fan of all-inclusive deals.
