Newbie- needs advice! :)

Hi all- just found this board last night & have already found it to be incredibly helpful.  I just kinda got the time to start planning and while I have the big 3 done (chapel, reception, and priest) I have a couple questions for you all.

We are trying to figure out between using a band/DJ.  Any one know the plus/minuses of having either?  Or any good local recommendations?

Also- the FI and I were thinking Hawaii for our HM.  Any rec for any hotels there?

Thanks girls! :)

We're staying at the Westin in Maui for our HM. I had FI plan the entire honeymoon (originally as a surprise) but after talking to many coworkers at my new job, this hotel is the place that everyone I have spoken to seems to go to!

We're going in two weeks! I'd be happy to update you with the details!

    GL with your planning!

We chose a Band over a DJ just because of the feel of the event.  You should probably narrow your list down to 2 bands and 2 djs and then go watch them play before hiring them.  You can get a feel of how they handle the crowd and what kind of songs they play.

I just feel like a band is more "wedding" than a DJ.  I've only been to one wedding where there was a DJ and when he started to play the electric slide and chicken dance, I got annoyed!

We used a dj, but we have been to several wedding with bands and I though both were great- it is more personal preference.  Typically bands run more expensive than djs though.

If you decide to go the dj route, I recommend Brad with Queen City djs- he did such a good job throughout the planning process (very professional and easy to work with) and did awesome the night of (played a variety of dance music to get all ages up and dancing all night).  www.quencitydjs.com

I went to Hawaii (Oahu) a couple years back and stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  I loved the hotel, the rooms were awesome and there are so many restaurants and so many activities to do on hotel grounds.

    Hello and welcome!

We are having a band and a DJ.  Best of both worlds!  We are using Leroy Ellington & The E-Funk Band.  We also got our DJ through Leroy.  They are awesome.  If you have any questions, ask away!

As for honeymoon, we are also thinking Hawaii.  I believe we plan to island hop.  Kuaui is the Garden Isle and is more exclusive, more private.  I've heard the best place to stay there is the Marriott Resort & Spa.  I also want to stay in Maui (thinking the Grand Wailea Resort) and Oahu (perhaps Turtle Bay Resort or Halekulani).  I know The Knot has some recs. for honeymooning in Hawaii, as does the Wedding Channel.

We chose a DJ because we listen to a lot of underground music and hard rock music so any band we were to pick would not fit with the wedding theme. And finding a DJ was easier and cheaper.

We had a DJ, we like so many different genres and my parents thought a dj would be easier.
    Sorry no recs on bands.
Hawaii would be amazing!! We wanted to go there, but when saw prices- went to mexico instead.
