sew my own tablecloths?

I'm considering having my FI's mom help me sew tablecloths rather than renting them because I'd like to use a fabric that has a pattern.  I don't know the first thing about sewing and was wondering if anyone had insight into how much fabric I would need for one table?

My venue has the following table sizes:

6-8 seater round (5')
6-8 seater rectangular (6'x30")
8-10 seater rectangular (8'x30")

TIA!

Do you have a specific pattern in mind or a connection to get discount fabric?  If not, it might be cheaper to simply buy tablecloths with a pattern wholesale online.  I loved the patterns at the rental company, but they were $36-56 per cloth for rental.  I found some online that I bought for $18 each.  Brand new, satin with velvet.
I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine.

generally, fabric comes on a bolt that is 45" to 54" wide (can be different, this is just generally what you would find at hobby lobby, walmart, or jo-ann's) and then they can cut it any length you want. How much you need is going to depend on a lot. How far do you want them to hang off the tables? to the floor? A bm made our table runners, and they turned out fantastically, and were MUCH cheaper than renting or buying, but were a huge pain in her butt and took up a lot of time (she made 16). All things to consider. HTH!
