July 2012 Weddings

Hello!

I'm actually finally coming and visiting this board because Ryan and I are actually thinking it might be in July!

I just guessed a date (Ryan actually guessed it) when I joined TK, but we really didn't know when we'd be getting married...

We still don't for sure, but our dating anniversary is July 5th, and we've decided to aim for it.

There'so so much up in the air because we're broke and jobless (me not through choice, him because he's got to find a new job to support us both when we're married; I'm moving to India to be with him and won't legally be able to work that first year). And he's in India and I'm in the US adn there's lots of legal red tape.

We're also not sure if we're having one wedding (In India) or two (with another in the US). We'd originally said of course we'd have two... then decided we couldnt' afford it and since wer're doing teh legal stuff in India (I'm moving there) then we'd nto do the US one... then it was painful to think of not having my parents at my weddign adn we're back to thinking we'll do two, just have the American one very humble.

The American one is the one we'd be doing in July. If we're financially blessed,w e'll do the Indian one right after, but we might have to space them. But we'll see...

So that's the complicatedness that is me. :) Hello!

Re: Hello!

  • Welcome to the board!  Have you made any plans for your wedding in India yet?

  • Not really. It's going to depend on a lot of factors, and the biggest whether we have a wedding in the US, since if we don't it will free up more budget for the Indian wedding.

Apparently Ryan knows some people who own a night club so we could probably get a deal on renting it, so that might happen. If we have a very humble budget though, we also may just have a small reception in his parent's apartment. I don't really think that will happen though, because Ryan says his church will be invited and that's already too many for that. But we're batting ideas around. We'll settle planning it more probably in the next month or so.

  • Welcome! Happy planning to you!

That's certainly a lot of stuff to fit into 4 months plus with a big move.  Did you have another date in mind originally?

Does the church have a function area?  Does someone have a backyard that could be used to hold the reception?  It's definitely possible to do something fun and meaningful on a small budget.

  • In America I'm thinking we'll do a ceremony at my church and have the ceremony in a rented picnic shelter in a park.

In India, his church rents their facitilites on Sundays only. Very few churches in India actually own their own buildings. So while we'd be getting married in his church (the body of believers) we probably wouldn't be getting married in the church (the building).
