Yet Another Vendor Vent!

The lady who runs the B&B my FI and I will be staying at the night of our wedding also makes cakes, so she is our baker too. She "put me on her book" back during the summer when we visited and talked about pricing. I asked about a deposit and she assured me this was not necessary, because she had me down. 

She emails me today and told me she may be going out of town for her son's birthday that weekend! WTF?!?!?! So unprofessional! 

So she says we can still stay in the B&B ( I guess she has someone watch it for her?), but she will get back to me on the cakes. I wrote her back and asked her yes to please let me know ASAP, because the wedding is just about 3 months away and I need to get another baker stat if she can't! Ugh. 

I guess it's my own fault for not insisting on giving her some money, but I tried and she said it was NBD. It's a small town, so I figured maybe she doesn't get a lot of business and that's not how they roll. I just don't get how you wouldn't remember or notice 7 MONTHS AGO that that's your son's birthday weekend. Like you think she'd have that blocked off or something.

  • Yeah no kidding!  Although to her credit, she may not have had plans to go out of town at that point and perhaps her travel was only scheduled recently.  Hope she gives you a firm answer ASAP one way or the other so you can find another baker if you do need one.
    Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

    How awful! I would be pissed!!!! But thats just me and im probably biased as ive had some vendor issues! GL and keep us posted. Hope everything works out for you. I would suggest calling around to other places now to see who is available on your date since we are getting so close now.

  • That's really annoying and unprofessional. I would also suggest calling around now to see what else you can figure out because we are getting really close. I would maybe just forget about her and find someone b/c it would make me nervous she wouldn't come through in the end. Sorry this happened!

  • wow...this is horrible.  My baker was the same way - refusing to take a deposit, hmmm maybe i should call her.  :(

  • Oh sucky vendor problems...just think, in 3 months (ish), they will be a distant memory.  :)

    I hope everything works out Erica.  If that's how she is about scheduling, maybe it's for the best that she doesn't do your cake.  Thank God you found out now.  That still stinks though.  :/

  • No offense, but if that's how she was I would be so extatic that I didn't put any money down. Now you can find a baker that will actually treat you right! Good luck!
