Cincinnati themed wedding favors?

We are having a destination wedding and want to do favors that are themed with the cities we are from and where we live.  My fiance is from Cincinnati - does anyone have any cute ideas for Cincinnati-theme favors (or Ohio)?  Not Skyline/Gold Star chili packets please (that was his idea)!

Re: Cincinnati themed wedding favors?

  • You can get relatively inexpensive Christmas ornaments of places and cities. I am sure there some very pretty ones of Cincinnati landmarks. Some kind of Reds token. Since baseball started here you may be able to find something cool in the Reds Hall of Fame museum. Something related to the Bengals. Something involving Graeter's, Skyline/Gold star Chili, Montgomery Inn, LaRosa's, or other landmark Cincinnati food places. Cincinnati Zoo Botanical Garden token Kings Island token You get the drift.

Or just buy some little pig figurines somewhere and glue on some wings. Laughing
  • Can I ask why no skyline/gold star chili? Especially since that's what HE wanted?
    Anniversary
  • Nothing says Cincinnati like skyline or goldstar chili    !

I'm curious too - because that's what I thought of immediately.

  • Greaters or Busken Bakery cookies, Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce, anything Bengals/Reds, Grippos, LaRosas sauce
  • You could do buckeye chocolates in honor of it being the buckeye state
That is the true season of love when we believe that we alone can love, that no one could have ever loved as much before, and that no one will ever love in the same way again

All of this.  I would seriously try to tie in a flying pig though.

  • I am repulsed by fast food chili...sorry...I hear you have to grow up with it...I did not...
  • We do grow up with it but we have thousands of people a year that come and try it and love it. It's been on Food Network as well. You may not like it but if he likes it and it's his city then you should actually consider it.

It's also not fast food, they take plenty of time to cook it. They just make large batches so there is enough to go around. My H used to work at Skyline.

What I tell people is get it out of your head that it is chili.  It is a Greek meat sauce that is absolutely delicious.  If you ever go to a Greek festival and have pastitso (it's like a Greek lasagna), you are eating the original Skyline chili. - and pastitso wouldn't be served anywhere there is a Greek community if you had to be from Cincinnati to like it

  • OP needs to get over herself- you get your city-themed favor, he gets his.

  • I will add to the crowd in saying that if there's anything Cincinnati is known for, it's the Chili. And, I will say, I went to college with a LOT of people that were not natives, including my fiance, who love Skyline :) I do understand you not wanting it to be your favor though. You could try some food-type favor that incorporates the Cincinnati Chili spices: Cinnamon, Cocoa, etc...you could do coffee, cookies, even a truffle of some sort?

Also, if you happen to have a nice budget for favors, you could do something from the Rookwood pottery- they sell little ornaments and tiles, and you may even be able to scour antique stores for vinatage ones :)

  • The ladies have some great options for you.
Cincinnati is known for its Chili.  True, it would be difficult to transport Skyline/Gold Star carry out for 140 and expect it to arrive hot.

Why not make some homemade Cincinnati Chili?  Easy to find the recipe online and there are copy cat recipe sites
  • You can also purchase the packets at Kroger that are "Cincinnati chili" for like a buck. If you want to spend two dollars per favor, buy one of those plus a box of spaghetti. :p
