does the dirt come out when a dress gets cleaned? Help!

Hi, all!

I am thinking about buying a sample dress.  It's been passed around on craigslist a bit, so it's a great deal.  It's a gorgeous dress and fit me very well, but there are some problems so I walked away from the deal.  Now I'm having second thoughts because it's a high end dress that I would never be able to afford new.

I think this must have been a sample dress.  There is dirt on the material around the zipper (it's likely been pulled on and off a lot of times) and also dirt around the bottom of the dress where it's been dragged around the floor.

There is also a blue mark on the train.  I think it might have been an ink mark of some kind. I'm less concerned about this...it's not too noticeable.

Lastly, the current owner is a smoker.

My question is to those who have had their dresses cleaned...how much of the dirt actually comes out?  Also, how much did cleaning cost?  (I wouldn't be getting the dress preserved at this point.)

Thanks for your help!

I purchased a sample dress from Fabulous Bridal and it needed to be cleaned - it was not as dirty as what you are describing above, but you could tell from where girls tried it on several times that it needed to be cleaned. I took it originally to Vanover Cleaners in the bridal district (Fabulous recommended them - since my experience I think they don't any longer) and they almost ruined my dress! I do NOT recommend them. I have even filed a complaint w/ the BBB. I then took my dress...a week before my wedding...to Atlas Cleaners in Newport (by the levee) and they did a wonderful job and actually got a blue mark (that Vanovers put on my dress) out! It cost me $110 from Vanovers for a cleaning and steaming - I'm pretty sure that's about average for most cleaners?

After the two cleanings (Atlas only did a spot cleaning for me) my dress looked brand new...you couldn't tell that it was a sample dress at all!

If you decide to purchase the dress, I would only recommend Atlas for cleaning!

    Good luck!
