Alterations

Does anyone have reccommendations for dress alterations in the Cincinnati area?  If so, can you please include phone numbers or contact info? Also- how far in advance are you supposed to get your alterations done?

Thanks in advance ladies!

You should probably take your dress in 3-4 months in advance just so they can tell you what might need to be done and give you a better time frame. They may not acctually start working on it until 2-3 weeks before as you might lose/gain weight which would affect the fit of your dress.

I'm impressed by Kim Dao Alterations.  Her shop's downtown near Gairfield Suites.  She did a wonderful 5-point French bustle and hem on my dress inexpensively.

I just had my final fitting last week, so I can now recommend Alterations by Frances in Ft. Thomas.  She's affordable and it includes a complimentary steaming.  (859) 442-7397.  Prices are on her website: http://alterationsbyfrances.com/.

I went in about 2 months before by wedding date, but I didn't need significant alterations.

Would anyone care to give me an idea of about how much they will be spending on their alterations? I was shocked when I received a couple of quotes on how much mine would be.... =\

The price really depends on how much work would need to be done and how time intensive that work is. If your dress has a lot of beading or lace, it will be more. It will also be more if there is a lot of detail at the bottom of the dress you don't want to lose. If it needs to be hemmed the seamstress would have to take the entire dress apart to shorten it versus just cut the bottom off. I would say typical is anywhere from $150-500. I had mine done by a family friend but she said that she would've charged about $400 for the work she did. Nobody will be able to give you a specific price until they see the dress first. Also, don't forget to consider the cost of the bustle and steam, which all dresses need. Those two things alone can run upwards of $100.

Kim--- yep, you got it. Lots of lace on my dress lol.... plus taking it in, bustle and steam... adds up quickly, huh?! I was definitely shocked by the final price, but I've really skimped and saved in a lot of other areas so it will all work out. Just trying to remind myself that it's our wedding and it only happens once :)
