photographer question/problem

i booked a new photographer who is a friend of a friend and is just starting out...not too big of a portfolio but a good eye...whatever. i have not been worried about it at all.

i was part of a wedding this weekend and the photographer was rachel spears who i've seen on here a lot and even looked at for a minute before i decided to go with the friend. i loved her and i just happened to mention my wedding date and she's open. and now i have no idea what to do. i didn't even pay a deposit with this other photographer, no contract or anything. she's that new to the scene. but after working with someone experienced and watching how her and her assistant made everything run smooth - i think i want someone who knows what they're doing.

how do i get out of it?? i know since i don't have a contract that i can. i just don't want to offend anyone. :( fiance doesn't care either way. i just really want to work with rachel and need help backing out with the other girl. i'm sick about this. it's just the ONE day i want to be perfect.

help. :(

Do you have a personal relationship with this person? It's nice that you're helping someone just starting out but not having a contract is a big no and I don't know if I'd want a new photographer taking my wedding pictures. Personally, I would explain the situation to her and tell her that you don't want to offend her but you aren't comfortable and would like to maybe do some pictures after she has lined up some work. I'd probably book the other photographer. I know other girls will say it's wrong but that's just what I would do.

You could always just say that a family member or someone booked Rachel as a wedding gift for you.  Maybe have this other photographer do some e-pics or holiday pics for you and your FI?

No signed contract= no obligation. Personally, when it come to your wedding, definetly have a contract because anything can happen. No show, illness....what will happen then? If you like the other photographer's then you should go with your heart. This your wedding  and not just another day.

Check with Rachel and see if she would be okay with the other photographer being at the wedding as a second photographer to take candid shots.  Or have the newbie photog do your engagement pics.

thanks for your advice girls. i went ahead and booked rachel today and paid the deposit so i'm definitely having her shoot the wedding which is already is making me feel better. i just hate hurting people's feelings so i'll probably take this advice and have her shoot something wedding-related for me. rachel's package includes the e-pics but i'll think of something. i am just so non-confrontational.

    thanks ladies!

What about bpics or trash the dress session for the other photographer?
