Reception Venues-overwhelming!!

My FI and I had decided that weekend that we were going to stick with looking at hotels for our reception next August (the mariott, embassy suites and the radisson which are all downtown/rivercenter locations).

My mom went to a party last night and some people told her we should check out The Grand in Covington. I know that McHale's Catering also has The Gardens. Has anyone checked out either of these places? It seems like the list of places to go tour is getting bigger and bigger.

Here is our list of venues to visit as of now:
-Embassy Suites
-The Radisson
-The Marriott
-The Grand
-The Gardens
-The Phoenix

If you ladies could give me feedback on any/all of the above mentioned places, I would really appreciate it! Or, if you have another recommendation, I'm all ears!

The Phoenix is really nice & has a garage right next to it on 9th.
I've been to wedding receptions there and they were really nice - elegant.

Also the Millenium hotel is also really nice - my friend who works for a florist setting up decorations and stuff up in Akron worked at a wedding there last week and it was really really beautiful.

Of all the places you mentioned, personally I like the Embassy Suites and the Phoenix the best.

I visited the Marriott and Embassy Suites. The Embassy has a beautiful view and was one of our top choices. I felt like the Marriott did not offer as much as the Embassy and charged more.

We looked at the Grand - I loved it. The people were great (I think I talked to Melinda? Miranda? Something like that!) with everything & the place is really pretty inside! It is a big 3-story building... has a balcony overlooking the main floor & you get the whole place to yourself. The one thing that was a huge drawback for me was that it is right next door to a strip club. You notice the big neon CLUB VENUS sign before you notice the little sign that says The Grand... I just didn't want that to be what people were greeted with when they came to my reception!

Definitely the Phoenix.  As part of the wedding party, I can attest to how accomodating they were.
