July 2012 Weddings

Honeymoon flights

So...I'm procrastinating booking our honeymoon flights because they are just so gosh darn expensive.

I don't think the price will go down at all since there is only 1 possible flight out on the day we leave, and one possible flight out on the day we come back.  One other airline flies there, but not on the days we are going.

The price has gone up about $50pp since it opened in August (that was shortly after the flights were opened), but other than that, nothin.

July is high season in Bora Bora with some month long festival in Tahiti, so naturally travel is most expensive then.  We're going the first week of August though since we're getting married on July 29.

So...would you wait to book and pray that it goes down?  Or suck it up and book it now in case they go up?

Re: Honeymoon flights

  • You could book through Orbitz and then if someone books a lower fare in the future, they send you a check for the difference.  I have done that before.
  • Do it now. The waiting game isn't going to work in this situation. With such limited flight choices - the price is only going to go up. I'm no expert - but I've flown 20+ times in the past 3 years (though to New Hampshire and Omaha) - and the flights from Cincinnati to Omaha were limited and they continued to creep up as time got closer.

One time I booked a month before my trip - and paid nearly 500 dollars for a 2 hour flight.....

Now - another time - I booked that night and flew out the next morning when FI was having emergency surgery - and it was like 250 - but I also drove an hour to Dayton and then flew.

Any chance of looking at nearby airports for lower fares?

  • Suck it up cupcake...Just book it and deal...one less thing to worry about =) and just in case they increase...then I would really be peeved (it's happened!)
  • I actually don't think the prices will change much (up or down) between now and January, so I think it just depends on when you have the money for the purchase. I wouldn't wait longer than February though. It is a single flight, so availability is not unlimited.

Btw, what airline is it? I know certain airlines have system-wide sales in January since it's generally a slow sales month for them.

  • It's Air Tahiti Nui (connected with Air New Zealand I believe).

Thanks for the input ladies.  I was figuring I should just book as well, just needed a boost.

This just book it now I would not wait any longer it might go up fifty more bucks!  And considering that there is only 1 flight in and out and a big festival I would not wait any longer.

  • Book it now. We booked our flights right when we were able to in September I think. The week after we did, the prices went down and I was so mad! So my suggestion is to book it now and DON'T look back! We never know if the price will go up or go down- it's better if we don't know :)

  • Since theres so limited amount of flight I'd be scared that if I waited there wouldn't be any flights left. I'd book now.

  • My travel agent told us that the cost of most flights is going WAY up next year...  We booked our flights to/from Hawaii as soon as they released the price in September, and it's already gone up since then.

Book ASAP... one less thing to worry about

  • I would definitely just book now.  I hate stressing about those small things like airplane tickets.  Just book and don't look back.

  • Hey!  We're going to Tahiti the same time!  We'll be in Moorea August 5-8th and Bora Bora the 9-12th.  Where are you staying???

We're flying AIr Tahiti Nui as well but I believe Air France goes there as well so that may be an option.

    Small world!!!

  • Air France doesn't fly in or out on the days we are going. :/

Bummer, we'll just miss each other! We'll be in Bora Bora from the 1st-7th, and then we're staying one night in Tahiti (7th-8th) so we can go souvenir shopping at their big marketplace.  We're staying at Le Meridien...what about you guys?

That's a heck of a long flight for you guys from Connecticut!

  • We're staying at the Hiltons.  Talk about a long flight - we're actually going from NYC-Thailand, then doing Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for a little over 2 weeks and then flying down to FP for a week or so.  I travel for work so we're doing the entire thing on points/miles (otherwise we'd never be able to do this), and we're bring my parents along for the Asia leg (but not FP, lol).

Have you tried kayak.com or fly.com - if there's only one flight, I'd imagine you're stuck with whatever they are charging, However, there's a chance they are codesharing the flight with someone.  I still have to book the flights from Tahiti to Moorea and then Bora Bora with Air Tahiti but they never seem to have any deals - oh well!

  • I've been checking every travel sight religiously since the flights opened!  Unfortunately there isn't a lot of change, so today I'm going to bite the bullet, book it, and never check again!
