Best Mexico destination??

I've been to Cancun and loved it!  We've never been to any tropical places on the pacific coast... we were thinking about Cabo or Puerto Vallarta.

Anyone been there?  We want the whole romantic, relaxing honeymoon!  Which is better for that?  How is the water in Puerto Vallarta... I heard certain parts in Cabo you cannot even get in the water?  Best AI resorts?  Are there better destinations in Mexico on the pacific side?  Also, we're getting married in October, so how is the weather?  It would be nice to be close (or bus/taxi close wise) to shops if we want to venture out one evening.

Thanks!!

  • We HM'ed at Secrets Maroma in Riveria Maya Oct 18-25th.  The weather was perfect and the resort and beach were amazing.

You can see my review and pics in my bio.
  • Thanks! Secret resorts look amazing and they are adult only! :-)  Since We've been to the Riviera Maya area and the Caribbean so many times we were trying to find something on the other side of Mexico either PV or Cabo.

I realize what you're looking for, but I did want to offer another option. DH and I had been to the Riviera Maya as well and wanted something different for our HM. We ended up going to Cozumel which is right off the coast of RM. It really felt like a completely different experience from mainland Mexico. It felt more like a Caribbean island and of course since all the hotels are on the west coast, we got the sunsets that you'll find in PV or Cabo.

In case that seems like an option you'd want to consider, we stayed at the Aura Cozumel Wyndham Grand Bay, which is an adults only AI. It only has 87 rooms, so it feels very intimate and we had a fantastic time.

We looked at the west coast of Mexico, too, because we wanted the romantic sunsets, but traveling out there from the Richmond/DC area would have taken a whole day and we wanted as much time on the beach as possible.

  •   If you want something different than Cancun or RM, try Rivera Nayarit or Point MIta, they are near Puerto Vallarta. THere are not that many resorts as in Puerto Vallarta and the weather is really nice.
Good Luck and have a wonderful Honeymoon!!!!!!!!!

  • The Palace Resorts, which are true all-inclusives, have a property in Nuevo Vallarta and it's lovely. They also currently have a $1,500 "resort credit" that you can use at the spa, and excursions, etc.

  • I vacationed in Puerto Vallarta a few years ago and it was okay but not the best. Alot of the beaches are kindof rocky and not the clear blue waters you would see elsewhere. I also wasn't a huge fan of the downtown area.
