Cruise: Balcony or Suite?

We are looking at cruises for our honeymoon and was wondering if anyone has been on a cruise, is a balcony room good enough? It looks like there is a fair amount of space in the room, or would you really suggest a suite? It seems like there is such a huge jump in price to get a suite and most people I have talked to say you are rarely in the room....but is it different for your honeymoon? I mean we live together all ready haha but is it worth it to spend the extra money on the suite?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Re: Cruise: Balcony or Suite?

  • "most people I have talked to say you are rarely in the room...."  and how does that equal not getting a balcony room? You have to shower, sleep, dress, sait for DH to do the same etc...it just makes the time you spend there SO much better. Dh and I always get balcony rooms and have breakfast out there in the AM, have a drink before dinner or before bed and if I need a break on a sea day I can sit outside with a book and relax. We've also had dinner room serviced there.

now as for the suite vs baclony issue-no one can telly ou that. if you have it in the budget-sure-but remember to look at the square footage of one to the other. some aren't much bigger than a balcony room. i've never had an issue with not enough room in a balcony room. compare the amenities of each and then make your decision.

  • We are going with the balcony for our cruise in Nov. I cannot justify spending that much more when I wont be in the room that much. Sometimes if you mention you are on your honeymoon and they have an extra room they will upgrade you
  • Go for the balcony. I have been on two cruises and both time we had the balcony. It was so nice being able to sit out there in the morning just the two of you. You are not in the room that much that you need a suit. I would rather spend the difference on an excursion or buy something at one of the stops. Good luck.
  • The balcony rooms are plenty big....no need to spend the extra cash just for an extra chair and table (which is basically the only difference in the suite).  You will be perfectly happy in a balcony room.  So save some cash so you can spend it on a couples massage ;).
  • we did a cruise for our honeymoon and we had a balcony, it was fine we were never in the room, but the balcony was nice when we were coming back into NYC and it was all lit up.

  • i agree with most ppl the balcony rooms are enough. they are wayyy better than a stateroom lol they suckkkk.

i think it depends a bit on your personal preference & what you plan on doing though. personally when i travel having a great hotel & room is more than half the fun! especially on our honeymoon 'cause we'll probably just have sex the whole time & barely leave the suite lol but if you plan on actually going out more than in & sight seeing etc it seems like it should be fine.
  • i've never been on a cruise... but when I do go. I'd definately shoot for the balcony room first.  I can't imagine feeling like a sardine in an interior stateroom. Eck!
  • I would definitely say the balconey its just you and him....suites are for more than 2 ppl and there is no need to spend extra money on this big room and you will only be in there for a few hours out of each day.
  • We were trying to make that very same decision and opted to save the other money for excursions, spa and shopping! Balcony is enough..my ta said the same thing. Suites are nice but really you dont need more then a balcony..take advantage of the down time on your balcony watching the sunset privately or eating your breakfast in private...oh I can not wait!! Anyone else almost more excited for the honeymoon then the wedding..lol...does that sound bad?
