New Zealand

My FI and are looking at doing our HM in New Zealand. When is the best time of year? Our wedding is in October. We don't mind doing our HM anytime after the wedding through Decemeber. I know the seasons are opposite of what we're used to here in the US.

Any other advice about going to New Zealand is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

We were talking about going for our honeymoon but we got married in June which was their winter. So we went to London and Paris instead. I know other ladies on here have been there and I am sure they will have lots of advice.

Here is a quick blerb about the weather there though:
New Zealand is beautiful no matter what time of the year or season you visit. The best time to visit New Zealand is the time that suits you best. However, if you have more than one date in mind, the following information may help with your travel plans.
The warmest months of the year are from September through to April.
December, January and February are the three hottest months of the year (Summer). Spring is from September - November. Autumn (fall) is from March - May and the Winter season runs from June - August. Maximum daytime temperatures vary from 15 to 30+ degrees (Celcius) in the Summer, 10 to 25 degrees in the Autumn (& Spring) and 5 to 18 degrees in the Winter.

I have only flown through NZ to Australia, but the flight wasn't too bad (IMO). We spent an extra $1K to purchase a SkyCouch (So, I think our flights total were around $4700). The SkyCouch is essentially three seats together that has a long leg rest that folds up to make a bed. I won't lie-it was a tight squeeze for the two of us and we're not that big (I'm 5'3" and DH is 6'0"; both of us are thin and not overweight) but I just popped a sleeping pill and slept the whole 12 hours. We're thinking of going to NZ next year, as we have a friend moving there in a few weeks. I'll most likely try to use my miles for one ticket and buy the other in business class.

I love New Zealand! I was on the South Island in October, and the weather was cool but nice. You will probably find that prices rise as you go farther into their summer. For the flight, I recommend Air New Zealand even if a US carrier is cheaper. The planes and seats are bigger, and food and wine are included. I was there during a younger, backpacker stage of my life but some of my hilights were the Franz Josef glacier hike, going to the mountains to see kias, which are large, curious alpine parrots, and skydiving in a cute little town called Lake Wanaka. When I went, all Air NZ flights included a free stop in Fiji, Tahiti, or the Cook Islands on the way home. I went with Fiji, and it is beautiful and very cheap once you are there! Sorry for the wall of text but I am on mobile and get VERY excited about New Zealand. FI and aren't doing a fancy HM now, but we just decided yesterday to save up to go back for a first anniversary ish trip in 2014. Have fun!
