Couples Swept away vs. sandals negril

Hey guys!
My fiance and I are going back and forth about which resort we should go with.  Does any one have any input on either one of these resorts????

Re: Couples Swept away vs. sandals negril

  • I would imagine that you are getting more for your money at Couples? They tend to be less expensive. I would vote for Couples as it's known to be extremely romantic and has a wonderful beach.

  • I've been to Sandals Negril.  While it was nice, it didn't knock my socks off.  It's kind of outdated.  I also wouldn't leave the resort as I think the area is a little sketchy.  That's the only place we've ever been where we didn't leave the resort.  The beach is nice though, and Sandals always treats you right.  I've never been to a Couples resort.
  • I am also thinking about going to couples swept away! I have heard good things about both but I feel you get more bang for your buck at couples. For those who have been there we are looking for a quiet place where it's not wild and want it to be classy and romantic does this fit the bill? Also did you guys feel safe in Jamaica we have not been out of the U.S and are a little nervous thanks!

<div>I have never personally been to Jamaica but according to a few friends that have gone and the other ladies on this board it is safe as long as you stay with a group or on your resort. That is one of the reasons when we decided to go to the Caribbean that we went to Mexico instead. In the Riviera Maya region it is almost all tourists and resorts so it was extremely safe and we were able to walk around and go into town on our own. We never were worried and didn't feel like we had to watch out for ourselves. Just my personal opinion, someone else may disagree. </div>

  • We;ve never been to Couples but we did go to Sandals Negril in June of 2009.  I have a review and pics in the link above my siggy pic if you want to check it out.
  • My fiance and I went to Couples in 2011. It was amazing! The staff were all very helpful and courteous. Our room was clean and well kept with a great view! There was plenty of things to do on site, my suggestion would be to stay on site if you choose Couples Swept Away. They had police patroling the beach at each end so we felt pretty safe. Although if you're nervous about the area, I highly suggest you stay on property during your stay. We went on a shopping trip the hotel provided - they basically took you on pre-planned shopping destinations all of which sold the same junk that we would never want, the areas were a little shady. We also went on an excursion to go ziplining, it was a 2 hours bus drive one way and they ended up taking up to the top of this really terrifying mountain where our instructors smelled distintly of a certain plant... We also loved that the property was adults only, it made for a relaxing trip! They offer a lot of things to do on-site including catamarans (highly recommend because you stop mid-way and swim through saves), snorking and nightly entertainment.
