December/January HM suggestions?

We are getting married in December, but may HM late December early January. I would love some suggestions.

Re: December/January HM suggestions?

  • What kind of things do you like to do?  What kind of place do you want to go? Mountains, beach, in the US?

  • I think we would like an active HM no matter where it is.
  • i just read that the end of Dec is the most expensive time to travel...you might want to wait until Jan!
  • We're doing a NCL Carribbean cruise in the first week of Jan. Cruise prices drop 50% the week after New Year's and they drop again the 2nd week in Jan.

  • I think a great place to start would be deciding if you want to go somewhere warm or somewhere cold!
  • Ditto pp... we don't know if you're looking for a cold or hot HM destination. If you're looking for cold since it'll be around the holidays there was a great post further down the page regarding honeymooning in the mountains and a lot of us suggested the Rockies.. Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Utah, etc.. I strongly suggest checking out the Big Sky Resort in Montana.. absolutely gorgeous in the winter and very romantic.

If you're looking to get out of the cold that time of year your options are endless! Mexico.. the Caribbean, South Pacific, Hawaii, South America, Australia (it's summer in the summer hemisphere that time of year.)
  • Whoops.. major typo.. I meant to say it's summer in the southern hemisphere that time of year.. haha
  • If you're looking for somewhere cold, ditto PP on Big Sky.  It's beatiful there and close to Yellowstone as well.  You can find cute, cozy chalets on the mountain that are ski in/out with hot tubs and fireplaces and the whole deal.  There is a great lodge on the mountain at Moonlight Basin for dinner.  They also do guided trips to Yellowstone most days out of Big Sky for snowmobiling, snow shoeing and snowcat rides.

If you're looking for somewhere warm, I would suggest the Caribbean.  Jamaica is one of the islands where we've found a lot of things to keep us busy.  You can do snorkeling, scuba, zip lining, climbing waterfalls, cliff jumping, etc.

Either way, I would suggest waiting til at least Jan 1 to do the HM to help cut costs.  FI and I vacation in the Caribbean every winter, and rates drop off dramatically between the end of Dec and after Jan 1.

  • If you're looking for warmth, I second PP's suggestion of South America. There are lots of different styles of vacation here in the various different countries (beaches, wine tasting, adventure, city sightseeing, the list goes on), and many destinations are relatively inexpensive thanks to the exchange rate.
  • Thanks! I know as far as warm weather goes there are a ton of possibilities. FI wants warm and I want cold. I guess we will see what happens. I think I may be getting my way Wink
