Driving tour of Ireland

I have been to Ireland before and I totally loved it!.  I mainly traveled by trains, buses and miles of walking.  I was wondering if it was worth it to drive?

I already drive manual.  I think it would take a little to drive on the other side of the road, possible sheep encounters, and curvey roads but nothing horrible. I thought that it might be easier in the long run so we dont have to be at x place by x time and it seems that it might work out to be less expensive.  Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly helpful! Thanks!

  • If you are the type of person that likes an adventure I say go ahead and drive. It would give you and your husband more time to spend with each other and  It would save you some money.
  • Hi there, I'm from Ireland but alway on this website for ideas! I would definitely recommend driving, there are motorways between all the big cities and yes you will have to venture down the country roads at some point but they're not that bad, its like driving anywhere new you just have take your time & be more careful. If you are renting a car you can ask for an automatic if you're more used to driving them as opposed to manual. Depending on where you're going public transport can be a nightmare sometimes particularly on busy weekends e.g. public holidays so driving is the way to go. You don't mention where in Ireland you're travelling to but for example if you fly to Dublin, its a 2.5 hour drive to Cork & Galway, 1.5 hours to Belfast, and about 3 hours to Donegal. Hope this helps you abit.
