NWR sad best friend

My best friend is going through some really stressfull stuff right now.  I don't really want to go into details, but she and husband are haing problems. I want to do something for her to cheer her up a little, but she lives in Chicago and I live in Atlanta. I can't really take a weekend to go up and surprise her which I would LOVE to do.  Does anyone have any suggestions of a care package I could send her?

  • You can send her a box filled with some inside joke items and other things she loves.  Even just sending her flowers to say "hey I am thinking about you" is always a plus :)

Hope everything works out for her!
  • I'm assuming if you're long distance best friends you must go way back. Maybe you could send her some fun reminders of your times? Maybe a photo album or like I remember my mom's sister sent a shirt that was like what they used to wear when they were in high schoo once.. And I'd include a favorite snack (cookies? candy?) and maybe a good book or CD?

"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels." -Isaiah 61:10 NKJV
  • Thats rough! What a good friend you are though! I always love really heartfelt cards, but I'm a card person. Maybe send her a pampering package or the gift of a long massage or mani/pedi or acupuncture (its great for stress) where she lives. I also am a chocolate person & getting some delicious Godiva in the mail would definitely cheer me up!

  • We do go way back!  I was her first friend when she moved to my hometown when her dad became the pastor of my church.  Thanks so much for all the suggestions.  I loved the inside joke one.  I think I am going to go to build a bear and make her a teddy bear.  Also some Skittles with all the orange ones taken out.  She doesn't like the orange ones.  Also a couple of CD's with music we listened to back in the day.  Thanks so much for the suggestions.  I know this will cheer her up a bit.

  • Hmmm.. maybe a "spa" care package so she can take some time out and relax? maybe put in a box (or basket) a nice towel with a good book, a candle some nice lotions, bubble bath and maybe some stuff for a manicure/pedicure?

  • When I was down, and FI was living 16 hours away...

He'd rent a chick flick - and tell me to go rent one..

and then we'd sit on the phone or on Skype (or similar program)

    and watch it together.

Totally weird - but honestly - it was nice and distracting.

  • This may sound silly but when I was going through a really tough time my bff got me a coloring book, some crayons, and smiley face stickers. It was a great distraction. I still color a page when I have a crummy day.

  • I'm big on making gifts for my girlfriends. Here are some things I've made, maybe something will jump out at you!

-A scrap book - I bought a small book (I think around 8 pages or so), and put one or two pictures on one side of each page, and then little stories ("Remember when..."), inside jokes, funny quotes one of us had said in the past, or quotes about love and friendship. I didn't hold back on the tackiness/cheesiness of it either! I used glitter and coloured pens to pretty it up
-A memory CD - songs that brought back memories, I also included a list with it saying each song and what memory or inside joke they made me think of
-I regularly send cards to my best friends, sometimes just to say I love you or thanks for being there, and sometimes I'll add a little something to it, like "10 reasons I love you" or "10 ways you have made my life better". I always include sincere/emotional things as well as silly or funny things

That's all I can think of right now that I have done. My best friend once cheered me up by doing a weird fashion show for me over skype. She's a little crazy but always makes me laugh :)

Do what feels natural to your friendship and I'm sure however you reach out will mean so much to your friend.
