RIO--SANTORINI--COSTA RICA--IBIZA

Hello ladies I hope someone can help me out! Did anyone go to any of these locations or are you going to these locations for your honeymoon? Where are you staying? What region, what resort? Fiance and I don't plan to "overbook" ourselves with excursions, we just want an amazing beach escape. Looking for advice, tips, ideas where to go that is different, romantic, exotic. . . Thank you!

Re: RIO--SANTORINI--COSTA RICA--IBIZA

  • I've been to all but Ibiza. Brazil was been Dh's and my favorite place we've ever been; however, June is their winter so it may not be super-beachy weather at that point. Santorini is beautiful and there are some nice beaches, but that island is more about the views, wineries, etc. (IMO) than the beaches. We did a Santorini/Naxos combo for our Greece trip though, and got the best of both worlds as Naxos has some stunning beaches! Costa Rica would be a good bet. June is technically rainy season, but generally you won't see much more rain there in June than you would in any other tropical destination--likely just a short downpour here and there. There are tons of amazing beaches around the world, so I'm sure you can get some great suggestions on here! A lot will probably depend on your budget, though - if you give us some idea of what you're looking to spend, we can probably give you better advice.
  • Forgot to post the resorts where we've stayed:Rio - blanking on the name of the hotel, but it wasn't very HM-ish anyway (we were only there for one night, spent the rest of the trip at Casas Brancas in Buzios and Anima in Morro de Sao Paulo - both of which we loved!)http://www.casasbrancas.com.br/new/eng/index.htmhttp://www.animahotel.com/hotelEN.htmlIn Santorini, we stayed at Astra, which was wonderful. In Naxos, we stayed at Muses Suites, which was also great (we stayed in the Erato Suite, which was hands down the best on the property).http://www.astra.gr/http://www.themuses.gr/We've been to Costa Rica twice. The first time we spent a night at Grano de Oro In San Jose, which was lovely but SJO is not much of a HM destination (we just had a forced overnight there due to flights), 4 at Los Altos de Eros near Tamarindo (absolutely fabulous, but as with many CR hotels, a short drive from the beach), and 4 at Gaia Hotel & Reserve in Manuel Antonio (see above beach/drive comment). This past CR trip, we split our time between Issimo Suites in Manuel Antonio and Los Altos de Eros again.http://www.hotelgranodeoro.com/http://www.losaltosdeeros.com/our_inn_perched_high.htmhttp://www.gaiahr.com/http://www.issimosuites.com/
  • I went to Ibiza with a bunch of friends while living abroad--it is definitely a huge party island. Like stay-up-until-8am party island. It was a great time, but not sure if I can picture a romantic, relaxing honeymoon there...When is your HM? You should check out Hvar, Croatia for somewhere different and absolutely gorgeous. Costa Rica also sounds amazing!
  • We went to Costa Rica for the honeymoon. Drake Bay and stayed at Jinetes De Osa- Snorkeled at Cano Island, hiking in Corcovado National Park, Zipline and horseback riding along the river to a waterfall, hiked daily to a beach.  It was so much fun and we loved it there!  Think of Hawaii before it was developed. Arenal- Montana de Fuego.  We went white water rafting, horse back riding, hot springs, hiking, and did a spa treatment. Los Angeles Cloud Forest- Villa Blanca- Coffee tour, San Ramon Tour, and bird watch tour.  It was very relaxing and close to San Jose.  Do no spend any time in San Jose if you can manage.
  • We just got back from our Costa Rica Honeymoon and had a great time. Even though it was rainy season we still had about 7 days with no rain (out of 14) and the days that did rain it wasn't bad at all.Stayed at La Amistad Hotel in San Jose: as others have said San Jose does not have much to offer, but stayed here 2 nights to explore a little and since we got in after 3 in the afternoon. Our second day we did a day trip to Turtle Island so, not much time here at all.Issimo Suites in Manuel Antonio: We loved it here! Not only the hotel which was great, but everything that there is to do. We ziplined, rode horses, did a dolphin watching/sailboat ride tour, went to the National Park, beaches, etc. We even had an in room massage after a long day.Arenal Nayara in the Arenal/La Fortuna area: Fantastic views of the volcano and a great place to go on tons of adventures. We did hanging bridges, hikes to waterfalls, atv rides, hot springs. In my opinion another must see place.Finca Rosa Blanca (outside of San Jose in suburbs): this was a coffee plantation we stayed on to end our trip with spectatular rooms and views down into San Jose at night. It was breathtaking. We just relaxed here at the end of our stay, lounging by the pool, exploring the little town, or relaxing on the patio. Very friendly staff.
  • Thank you brides for your suggestions!! We decided to go to Costa Rica and we are very excited!
