FIJI Anyone?

We are thinking about going. Has anyone been? How was it? Maravu Resort, Taveuni Island This is where we are thinking about staying.

Re: FIJI Anyone?

  • I have not been there, but that is one place were also thinking about going for our destination wedding. Isn't it gorgeous? I am so scared of the plane ride though. How long were you thinking on going for? Have you seen the beautiful overwater bungalows? OMG!!! That's what we wanted to do, but it's the darn plane ride that is taking it's toll.:-)
  • Yeah, the plane ride is what is holding us back too.  I really want to make sure it is worth it.
  • I just got back from HM in Fiji. If you scroll down a bit on the board, I posted the reviews for the two resorts we stayed in (Malolo Island Resort and Qamea Resort and Spa). The plane ride wasn't that bad (we live in NY so it was 15 hours), but we've traveled a lot so I've kind of gotten used to long flights. I would definitely recommend doing 10 days if you are going to make the trip. Fiji is absolutely amazing - its definitely worth the trip. The Fijian people are the nicest people I have met anywhere in the world. If you are at all interested in learning to dive, this is one of the best places in the world. There are some amazing dive sites near Taveuni. One suggestion (that we didn't do, but wish we would have) is to request the upper deck if you fly Air Pacific. It doesn't have many passengers so is much more quiet. The only thing I know about Maravu is that it is a family resort, so that might impact your decision. Michigangirl - You might already know this, but I think there is only 1 resort in Fiji that has overwater bures (Likuliku) and they command a heafty price tag for that reason. Our first resort (Malolo Island Resort) was on the same island as Likuliku. It is beautiful and it has a great beach, but the snorkeling is just ok compared to some of the other places we went (it all depends on what you are looking for). You might want to also check out Bora Bora or Tahiti if you really want an overwater bure. In all, you won't be disappointed anywhere you go!!
  • Thank you. I did see the price tag...It is expensive, but I was thinking if we just had a couple days in one of those and the rest we could stay somewhere else. I am still trying to pick out where to go!!:-) lol..Im overwhelmed as you can see...haha..thank you though.
  • Hi Valentinegirl! We are going to Fiji for our wedding (we're eloping) and honeymoon! I love that I have been reading more posts lately about it! I think it will definitely be worth the looooooong flight. We are going for 12 or 14 nights (we haven't decided yet) and doing two resorts. One will definitely be Likuliku so we can do the overwater bures the last few nights. Maravu gets awesome reviews on TripAdvisor. I don't know much about the resort specifically, but my travel agent has said that there's lots to do on Taveuni- Bouma Waterfalls tour, Lavena Coastal Walk. I think she told me Taveuni is known as the "Garden Isle."

  • Thanks. Unfortunatly we would only be able to spend 5 nights which may not be worth it. We may have to plan this one as a 1 year  anniversary trip.
  • I just got back from our HM in Fiji last week, and it was amazing!  We stayed 9 nights total at two different resorts, Matamanoa and then Matangi, which is right off Taveuni.  If you are looking for quiet and very few people, Matangi is perfect.  We were one of only 7 couples there, we felt like celebrities! I don't think 5 nights would be worth it...the flight for us was only 10 hours from LAX, but if you are going to go, I would go for longer.  It will be more with it! We had an amazing time, wish we were there still!
  • jsassy: I think we met! We were the couple that was staying at Qamea and were on the same flights to and from Taveuni from Nadi. Glad to hear that you liked Matangi! We lucked out - I guess the weather has been pretty crappy since we left. Girlinchicago: I just saw your other post and I'll send you the link to my pictures tonight. I actually have some pictures of Likuliku from the top of Malolo Island. It is beautiful! I think we changed our mind about 100 x before we finally decided on Qamea.
  • Yes we did meet, twice! :)  Wish we could be back there right now...
