Tropical HM in August?

FI & I would like to take our HM after we get married next August (he will just be finishing law school & will need to start a job very soon after so no chance to push it back). I'd like to do Hawaii, but we aren't sure if we will be able to afford it yet. Anyone have ideas of tropical spots that aren't usually affected by hurricanes?

We just did our honeymoon in Jamaica. It was beautiful and only rained once.

St Lucia is below the 'hurricane belt' since it's the furthest south.  I haven't heard a bad thing about the island - we're going in October for our HM.

Look into doing a cruise.  If by chance there happens to be a hurricane, the cruiseship can just change direction in plenty of time so yuo can go on enjoying your honeymoon, whereas if you are on an island, you're stuck.A co-worker got married Aug 14th and just got back from her Carribean cruise honeymoon. This is how I learned this information.  I asked if she was a little worried since it's hurricane season. She told me about the changing directions thing.  Apparenlty one of the other cruiseships had to do this, so apparently they get warnings well in advance.

st lucia is the furthest south? http://www.definitivecaribbean.com/images/TemplateImages/caribbeanmap.jpgit is, in fact, not the furthest south. st lucia does get hit. aruba, bonaire and curacao, trinidad and tobago are considered 'safer' islands but it does happen from time to time.if you want 100% guaranteed hurricane safe don't go to the caribbean between june 1 and nov 30 and teh west coast of mexico area (including hawaii) from may 1 to oct 15.

here's st lucia's history with hurricanes: This areas hurricane past1875 90mph sept 9th just north1960 hurricane Abby hit with 80mph winds in july killing 6.1963 hurricane Edith hits with 80mph winds press 28.88 10 killed1979 Hurricane David passes just north of here by 40 miles with 145mph winds causing alot of tree damage Aug 29th. Full brunt was felt north of this Island. 1980 hurricane Allen eye passes just south Allen had 115mph winds at the time gusts to 130mph aug 4th very heavy damage. Six reported killed with 235 million in damage.1994 tropical storm Debby destroys 60% of Banana cropsAug 17th,2007 Hurricane Dean passes between Martinique and St Lucia with 100mph winds.The roof at the Children's Ward of the Victoria Hospital had been blown off and roads had been blocked with debris. The two airports on the island had been closed and eyewitnesses told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that boulders used as "wave breakers" at the sea ports in Castries had been pushed unto the nearby John Compton Highway. Strong winds and heavy seas caused extensive damage along the north and west coasts of St. Lucia, including damage to bridges, roofs, and utility poles. Damage there was estimated at $18 million.Was moving west at nearly 25mph while passing through.One death reported in St Lucia

Just came back from Hawaii after an 8/8 wedding. Hawaii gets a lot of hurricane warnings/watches, but it's only been hit twice in the last 3 decades. The last time was 9/11/92 by Hurricane Iniki. This fits under my definition of "not  usually affected by hurricanes."We just had the tail end of tropical depression Felicia for the first few days in Hawaii. Just clouds and rain. It happens so infrequently that, imo, it's a minor concern. Satellite tracking of weather makes for great overblown (pun intended) headlines.
