Sandals Grande St. Lucian St. Lucia is a beautiful lush island. We are very happy we picked St. Lucia. The staff at the resort were very friendly. When we arrived, we were given hot towels and champagne. The manager showed us to our room. We stayed in a honeymoon beachfront room, which seemed to be the better choice, over the ocean front room – better views as long as you are on the 2nd floor or higher. We did not spent a lot of time in our room, so we were happy we picked this level ad nothing higher, because to us, it would not have been worth the money. We thought the food was decent – no real complaints. We had to wait a little long at Josephines, but it appeared they were short staffed during that time. That was the only time we had a negative dinner experience. Breakfast was yummy every morning at the main dining area. Barefoot was good for lunch and the Italian restaurant for dinner was good too, it was nice to dress up a little fancier for dinner. Dinner was good at the main dining area too. They also had a dinner on the beach night with large table, buffet style. Another night they had an International Buffet, which was pretty good. They had this amazing chocolate display one night, which was so yummy. The hotel was clean and the beach was hands down the best of all three Sandal’s locations. The only complaint is the locals get onto the beach somehow and try to sell you jewelry, etc – which is a little annoying, though they aren’t too pushy. We thought they could have offered a little more to do in the evening, other than listen to live music. There werent as many activities or things to do in the evening as we thought there would be. We got a couples massage at night out on the pier – the best massage either of us ever had - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - treat yourself, its worth it!. I would say about 90% of the resort were honeymooners. You realize quickly everyone is floating on the same cloud you have been floating on from the wedding events. They did give us a bottle of champagne, breakfast in bed, rose petals scattered throughout the room, to celebrate us being on our honeymoon- which was nice. We only left the resort once for an excursion (Simon Says tours – highly recommended). You will see him on the beach. We went to the drive in volcano, a waterfall and the best of all, snorkeling right in between to two pitons. AMAZING!! we also went back to his house, where his wife prepared an amazing, authentic lunch. In talking with some people, we found that many couples staying at the other two Sandals resorts, came over to the Grande because their impression was that the Grande was the best of the three, which did appear that way, given what some of their comments were. We were happy we decided to stay at the Grande. The only real negative thing i have to remark on, is the car ride from the airport to the resort and back at the end of your stay. I have never gotten car sick before and read reviews that were variable regarding the car ride. I thought i would be fine, and i will not lie, the last 20 minutes of the hour and 10 minute drive, was rough. i felt sick and really just wanted to get off the van. You are in a van that fits four couples. the air conditioner was on, but it didn't feel like it. The roads are small with a lot of curves and dips. I truly didn't think it would bother me, but it did. My husband was fine. Tips: once you arrive in St. Lucia, they do open the front and back of the plane to get off, try to get off the plane as fast as possible, because immigrations only has like 5 booths and it can take a long time if you are in the back of the line. We had the second to last row on the plane, but were two of the first 20 people in line for immigrations. say NO to the gentlemen who will help themselves to your bags once you get your luggage. they only walk your bags like 5 feet through a set of doors and then demand (and will wait for) a tip. just say NO. I would recommend having a snack to eat as well from your flight to St. lucia.. i think it was the only thing that prevented me from getting sick on the car ride. If you have a long flight into St. Lucia, then after going through immigrations, waiting for luggage and then sitting on the van, you will want something to eat. if you want to get a hut on the beach, go down early and put your stuff there. they go quick, and they are nice to have if you plan on spending a lot of your time on the beach. Have an extra set of beach towels handy that they give out at the towel hut. Sometimes it will down pour (only for a short time). Everyone wants a dry towel after this and they ran out two times. If you want stronger drinks, just tell the bartenders. We went off the property once to take some pictures. we went out the front entrance of the resort and got slammed with locals trying to sell us stuff. the one guy made something for me, then kinda demanded money. we didn't have any cash on us anyways. When we checked out, there were about 50 people leaving the same time as us. they have vans available for everyone but only so many can fit around the circle. I recommend eye balling your luggage when they bring it down, grab it and stand close to where the vans pull up, so you get one of the first vans out, other wise you will have to wait longer at the resort and then you will have to wait again once you get to the airport. Lines were long. Hope this helps.. any questions, just let me know!
