My worst wedding nightmare has come true

My dress doesn't fit.

The seamstress told me if I lose a few pounds it'll fit.

Cool, thanks lady.

It's so tight around my midsection. It looks more like a fit and flare dress than an A-line (which is what it should be). I've lost 15 lbs since it was ordered in September.

She said they can fix it, but I'm not sure how that's going to happen. I was really upset by her comment, too. We ordered the dress a few sizes larger than what I needed, too, so something's not right.

Do you think they may have ordered the wrong size? It definitely sounds like an issue with the dress and not you. And her comment was really bi*chy. You definitely have enough time to do what you need to by July, and they have enough time to fix the dress. 3 months is a long time. When do you have to go back?

That totally sucks! Best of luck.

ETA: Definitely check the size of the dress to make sure it was ordered correctly.

Thanks, girls... I needed to vent.

I WAS dealing with the head seamstress... my next fitting is June 4th. I may purchase something just as a backup and then resell it. Just for peace of mind. I can't walk down the aisle in the dress as it is now.

Oh No! I would def take people's advice and see if there is someone else in the store you could possibly speak with. Is this the first time you have tried on the dress since it came in? If so is it possible that it is the wrong size? I know that my dress orginally came incorrectly and the shop had to re-do my measurments and re-order the dress. It only took like a month for the 2nd dress to come in.

Ahh!! I'm so sorry K888!! I'm really hoping everything works out at your 2nd fitting! I'm sure it will. As backup, is there somewhere else you could take it for alterations if necessary after your 2nd fitting?
  • Options
Huh? Was this your first time trying on the dress? It sounds like they made a mistake- check on that.

A, Im sorry. That sucks. im trying mine on in 2 weeks, and I am terrified of the same thing.
    B. That was a terribly rude comment to make, and like pps said, I would double check the sizing, and what you ordered, and as nati suggested, take your business elsewhere if necessary.

I had the same problem when I got my dress. The comapny was really great about it. I re=took my measurements and they remade it. The new dress fits great. I suggest checking the size like everyone else has said and then looking for a back up dress. That is what I was going to do if my dress still didn't fit right. Now I am just going to wear it on our honeymoon.

It really does sound like someone made a mistake with your dress especially if you say that you ordered it bigger. Do you have the original paperwork? Measurements that they took?? You should not have to buy a plan B if they messed up!

I'm sure everything will work out!!

Raise a stink!! They are the ones who took your measurements, and you haven't gained any weight, so if it's too tight, it's obviously on them. They either f'd up your measurements or f'd up the ordering. GL K888!!

Good luck K888! Let us know what happens. Maybe when it was ordered, they were looking at another designer's sizing chart. My 2nd fitting is Thursday so I can understand the anxiety over it.

I agree with this! Something is up you have been continuously losing weight and the fact that you ordered it a couple of sizes larger it should fit!!

If you do decide to buy another dress my place was great in Bloomfield it is called arelene's bridal. Hollywood bridal is awesome as well. My friend also sold her wedding dress on preownedweddingdresses.com.

This is where I went. :(

My mom's friend told me that some designers ship the dresses with a few extra inches in the seams so that the seamstresses can let them out to custom fit each individual. So I'm hoping letting the dress out around my hips will help. (I have a really small waist in proportion to my hips.)

They promised it would fit perfect but I'm now so unbelievably nervous and embarrassed from the fitting.

The rest of the dress fits me perfectly, so I don't think they ordered it incorrectly. I checked the receipt and they checked the designer's catalog, too. (I have a large chest so finding anything strapless that fits and looks good is a miracle in itself... so at least that is something)

Oh well... another month of anxiety. Maybe that will kill my appetite so I'll drop those last few pounds.

totally agree with Bmore and the others!! something is absolutely not right. you are losing weight and exercising non-stop. it sounds like something with the order was screwed up. Is there a manager for the store, an owner, SOMEONE higher-up than this biitchy seamstress who you could take your complaints to???

It's still crappy of the lady to say something like that! Okay, so if it's supposed to come with a few extra inches in the seams- then you should be okay. They will have to figure out how to make it fit- not YOU.

Congratulations on losing 15 lbs though! To be honest, my self confidence deflates whenever somebody mentions that I "used to be so skinny!" or if a size doesn't fit me correctly. That lady was not kind at all. AT ALL.

This happened to me! It has a corset back so I can wear it, but it gathers in front of my hips probably because my butt is too big :( I feel your pain! I also was told if I lose some weight it should fit better.

I appreciate all of your kind words and positive thoughts. I felt stupid calling my friends upset about this because I'm not sure they would understand.

dawnleanna - I'm sorry you had to deal with the same sh*t. I didn't take it to heart because she's a little old Russian lady but COME ON!

Wow. That lady's comment was way off line - but I've noticed that a lot of alterations people are rude. The lady who took all my measurements and did all the pinning for my dress was okay - but the lady I met with for actually trying on the dress post-alterations was a bit...blunt about things that had NOTHING to do my dress fitting or not.

I think it's bizarre that it's not fitting though - especially because you've lost weight - not gained?

I'm sorry :( I totally and completely feel your pain! Thank God mine is a corset back or it would be worse, but the privacy panel would not close up toward my chest, by like an inch or so :( I went in feeling sooo nervous...and came out feeling even more nervous!! My dress looks great from the front, but that freakin panel won't close! They told me over and over it'd be ok and the panel can be moved over, etc etc, but it didn't really make me feel better.

The worst is when people ask how the fitting went and you have to tell them you're too fat for your dress :( (Not that YOU are "too fat", but that's how I feel when I have to tell them!)

I really hope they get it all figured out for you! I'm sure they will, but trust me, I know that being told they will does not help...it will not all be better until the darn thing fits!!
