Carnival Cruise gift cards?

Ok, so I'm really considering not having a wedding registry and asking for Carnival gift cards instead. We already live together so we have all the household items we need, we honestly don't have the space for more! I've never been out of the U.S. and we both want to go on a cruise really bad... and we can barely afford the wedding as it is bc we are getting no outside help, so there is no honeymoon planned and we are getting married May 4th!!!! So in other words, does it sound greedy to ask for Carnival gift cards instead of saying we have a wedding registry?! HELP!!

Re: Carnival Cruise gift cards?

  • This is NOT ok, and when you are ready to take a cruise, I would think you would NOT choose Carnival because they are not really dealing effectively with TRIUMPH as CMGr stated, and you don't want to be with a company that doesn't effectively handle problems.
  • For once I agree with Kristin. After the Triumph disaster, FI and I will likely never cruise with them again (whether that's fair or not - though their prices are about to hit rock bottom because of it).  Carnival cruises are full of children anyway.

OP, you are not entitled to a honeymoon.  If you wanted one, that was something you needed to budget for upfront.  A vacation is not a right of marriage, and your guests are not obligated to fund it for you.  You are planning on being married for at least the next year, correct?  If so, save it for your one-year anniversary.

And if you haven't heard about the Triumph:

I just posted about this above in another post. I do not get this at all. My DH has owned a home since 1989; I have owned one since 2004. We have lived together for over 6 years. We put together a small registry, but found a million things to put on it! We're a little tight on space as well, but we figured some of our items are old or could be upgraded and the old items can be donated to Goodwill. I paid for my entire wedding myself and took the HM I could afford. Everyone should do the same, unless someone in your family generously offers to provide assistance.

  • that's wrong.

most of us pay for our own weddings. if you dont have enough for a HM now either 1) push it back until you can save and afford everything you want or 2) go on a trip later.

no. dont ask for gift cards for a trip.

  • You don't have to take a honeymoon immediately following your wedding, you know...  You could use your money that is given to you for the wedding and take a trip a few months later...

by that argument then you also have to discount princess, cunard and I believe holland america and seabourn as well.
